At the 57th Annual GRAMMY Awards held at Los Angeles’ Staples Center earlier this week, audio manufacturer Sennheiser once again delivered ultra-reliable and extraordinarily detailed wireless audio to a host of world-class recording artists including Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith, Beyoncé, Madonna, Tony Bennett, Annie Lennox, Miranda Lambert and many others. Sennheiser user Sam Smith scooped up four GRAMMY Awards, including Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best New Artist and Best Pop Vocal Album; Ed Sheeran performed a guitar-centric, stripped down version of his blockbuster ‘Thinking Out Loud’, singing through a Sennheiser SKM 2000/MD 9235 combination, and Beyoncé delivered the performance of a lifetime through the Sennheiser Digital 9000 wireless system.

Usher kicked off his current “The UR Experience” tour in November with Elation Professional’s award-winning Sniper multi-effect light used extensively throughout the show as a key accent element including laser simulation. The Sniper, Elation’s new beam, scanner and laser simulator in one, and a PLASA Innovation Award winner, has been used on a growing number of shows and special events since its launch last October, both in the U.S. and abroad.

Clay Paky fixtures dominated the lighting rig for Katy Perry’s glittering halftime show at Super Bowl XLIX in the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.  Lighting designer Bob Barnhart of LA-based Full Flood chose a large array of Clay Paky Sharpy, Mythos and A.leda B-EYE K20 fixtures for the 12-minute show.

The creative video solutions specialists at XL Video played a crucial role in the stage design for the Die Fantastischen Vier “Record” tour under the direction of production designer Gunther Hecker. A 4-metre square, 6-faceted LED video cube, each side of which is recordable, hangs directly over the band during the concert. The construction, designed exclusively for this tour, can be moved horizontally and vertically, as well as turned and tilted in all directions. Throughout the entire concert, graphics specially designed for the LED cube in combination with lighting effects are displayed and intensified by the mirrored surfaces on the stage’s rear wall.

Genre-defying outfit Metronomy have played a special one-off gig at London’s iconic Alexandra Palace, engaging audiences with a disco atmosphere created by lighting designer Ed Warren. Built around the fantastic effects of the exciting new Clay Paky Stormy CC, Warren’s concept was strobe-heavy and glitteringly vibrant.

London-based creative technology expert Realtime Environment Systems Ltd (RES) has provided the know-how for a spectacular visual event to mark one year since the Sochi Winter Olympics. The ambitious event at Sochi's beautiful Ice Palace featured a dramatic ice show and was staged by Russian TV company Channel One.

Katy Perry’s glittering halftime show at Super Bowl XLIX in the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona was an eye catcher. Jason Rudolph, the lighting director in charge of the video system, used a grandMA2 light console to control the projection and inflatable, illuminated orbs.

Rhapsody in Rock is an annual series of live shows which combines classical and rock music, performed by a symphony orchestra alongside its founder - Swedish pianist Robert Wells - a contemporary band and vocalists. In March the production heads out on the second leg of its 25th anniversary tour, where three Yamaha CL5 digital mixing consoles will again provide their own Rock solid performance.
