Speed and Concentration
Berlin was the political focus of national and international TV reporting. There was a lot of activity in the ARD capital studio to report live until late at night about the federal election in 2021 and two state elections. The ARD production management had called in almost all personnel and material to realize this live program. We had a look at what was happening from behind the scenes.
Riedel Continues Growth Path and Expands Leadership Structure
As part of its global growth strategy, the Riedel Group announces a strong, expanded management structure comprising of experienced leaders from within. Starting January 1, 2022, the Wuppertal-based company will be organized in three main divisions: The “Product Division” and “Managed Technology” business units will have Rik Hoerée and Lutz Rathmann as their respective new CEOs, with Riedel Networks GmbH and its managing director and CEO, Michael Martens, forming the group’s third division.
Dolby Atmos for all
The Swiss technology service provider tpc produced a recording of the opera “Rigoletto” from Seebühne Bregenz in 2019 – also as a showcase for a UHD HDR production with Dolby Atmos, which is now accessible via HbbTV. Reason enough for Bernhard Herrmann to take a look at how the recording was made and what the state of things is with Dolby Atmos.

Introducing Canon’s First Full Frame, 8K Cinema EOS Camera
Canon Europe today announces the EOS R5 C, a powerful, hybrid cinema camera which combines the professional filmmaking features of the Cinema EOS range with the EOS R System’s photo capabilities. Underpinned by a high-resolution, full frame CMOS sensor, DIGIC X processor and the RF Mount, these three elements enable high fidelity 8K capture, and 45 megapixel still photo capture at burst speeds up to 20 frames per second, all in a single body. Building on the ground-breaking impact the EOS 5D Mark II had on the filmmaking industry, the EOS R5 C’s compact, yet versatile body supports the needs of a new generation of content creators and solo shooters.
High tension in Tempelhof
The finale of the seventh season of Formula E, the FIA racing series for electric racing cars, took place at the former Berlin-Tempelhof airport in mid-August 2021. Aurora Media Worldwide from London was responsible for the live TV production. Bernhard Herrmann observed for us how more than 30 cameras captured what was happening.
ROE Visual Japan Founded to Support Expansion Plans
ROE Visual is proud to announce that its Japanese-based subsidiary is fully operational. Following its global expansion plan, opening new subsidiaries is part of the sales strategy to have full-fledged sales and support bases close to the customer. The office of ROE Visual Japan is located in Hatchobori, in the heart of Tokyo. The new office has over 260 square meters of floor space, including a showroom fitted with the latest LED products.
Zero Density Releases AI-powered Talent Tracking Product
Today, Zero Density releases TRAXIS talentS, an industry-first AI-powered markerless stereoscopic talent tracking system that can identify the people inside the 3D virtual environment without any wearables. talentS is the first product of Zero Density’s new brand TRAXIS, with which Zero Density addresses the challenges of tracking and emphasizes its approach to open new doors and possibilities in virtual production. Deploying talentS makes beacons or wearables -talents had to wear to track their movement- obsolete, thus giving more flexibility and ease in moving in virtual studios.
Enhancing the expertise in the market
Benefitting from common synergies – Guntermann und Drunck GmbH (G&D) and TRITEC Electronic AG (TRITEC) have signed an agreement in this aspect to form a new technology group in November 2021. This partnership will strengthen the portfolio of the group by complementing the product offering of Guntermann & Drunck (G&D) - a leading technology provider of high-performance KVM (Keyboard, Video, Mouse) solutions with TRITEC’s display management skills and expertise in the medical sector. JW Player Launches BROADCAST LIVE and STUDIO DRM Solutions for Broadcasters
JW Player, the leading video software and data insights platform, today announced that VUALTO, acquired in May 2021, is now fully integrated with JW Player. As a result, two offerings formerly provided by VUALTO are now available to JW Player customers: Broadcast Live (formerly VUALTO CONTROL HUB) and Studio DRM (formerly VUDRM). These integrated offerings enable broadcasters and other content owners with adaptable, scalable, secure and intelligent solutions for video orchestration and encryption.
ATSC Board Members Elected By Membership
Members of the Advanced Television Systems Committee Inc. (ATSC) elected three experienced media executives to serve on the ATSC Board of Directors for three-year terms that begin in January 2022. Jim DeChant, News-Press & Gazette Company was re-elected for his second term. Elected for a first term is Fred Engel, PBS North Carolina; and returning to the Board is Brett Jenkins, Nexstar. Former ATSC Board Chair and retired Zenith executive Wayne Luplow was appointed by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) as its 2022 ATSC board representative.
