ES Broadcast technical director Jonathan Lyth outlines how his company designed, specified and built the backend video and audio infrastructure for the OGN Super Arena in California, discussing the challenges faced and sharing the lessons learnt along the way. It’s hard to overestimate the impact that eSports is having on the video games market. Indeed, the impact is being felt across the entertainment sector with the scale of competitive playing, the level of sponsorship and the associated prize money impossible to ignore.

Videosys Broadcast, a leading supplier of quality camera control systems, RF links and camera backs to outside broadcast providers has announced that it has supplied two DTC 4K AEON-CC digital video transmitter systems to Cloudbass, a leading provider of broadcast solutions. Specifically designed for high-quality wireless camera applications the AEON-CC uses DTC’s next-generation HEVC encoder technology facilitating UHD images. The system consists of one single 4K transmitter unit from DTC coupled with a built-in Videosys Camera Control system. The advantage of the AEON CC with Videosys’ camera control receiver built into the unit is a reduction in the equipment count and the complexities that come when managing 4K transmission and camera control simultaneously.

Event production company GENETIC Productions is out with Morgan Wallen as the rising country music star opens as direct support on Luke Combs’ "Beer Never Broke My Heart Tour," a North American stretch that wraps in mid-December with shows at 20,000-capacity Bridgestone Arena in Nashville. GENETIC has again supplied an Elation rig for the singer after having supplied Wallen’s inaugural headlining tour, “Up Down,” last year. GENETIC serves as the lighting and video vendor for the outing, working closely with designer Zac Coren.

The Finnish production company Director's Cut, based in Helsinki, has recently equipped part of its production facilities with new technology and optimised workflows. Broadcast Solutions, with its Finnish subsidiary, planned and implemented the measures. The aim of the modernisation was, besides renewing the technology, to increase flexibility in daily work and optimise production workflows. Director's Cut's existing infrastructure proved too outdated and inflexible to cope with the increasing number of simultaneously produced sports programs.

DJ, producer and sound designer Ummet Ozcan has built a hugely successful career, despite the acoustically challenging spaces he has often made music in. Now, thanks to the creation of his own private studio by renowned acoustician and studio designer Jan Morel, Ozcan finally has the ideal recording space - with a Genelec smart active monitoring system at its heart.

Following Coldplay’s bold decision not to tour “Everyday Life” for environmental reasons, the band came up with a spectacular alternative for achieving maximum impact: “We wanted to pick somewhere in the middle of the world where we normally don’t get to play”, Chris Martin, Coldplay’s singer, told the BBC.
