When Spectra, the venue management and operator of the Iowa Events Center (Des Moines, Iowa), decided it was time to update the sound system in the Wells Fargo Arena, they opted to work with Daktronics on a design-build basis. The goal was to modernize the sound both within the arena – which serves as the region’s primary sports and entertainment venue – and for several ancillary areas outside the main space, including concourses, restaurant/bars, and interview rooms. The project was led by David Sturzenbecher, applications engineer in the Audio Systems division of Daktronics. The physical installation was managed by Daktronics Field Engineer Thijs Hammink.

Between streaming regular matches for 16 sports to ESPN+ and the international Ivy League Network on Stretch Internet, as well as ancillary content to its social media channels, the department keeps a packed schedule. To manage the workload and bring Big Red fans high quality video coverage of their favorite sports, it uses AJA HELO H.264 streaming and recording devices in a range of streaming configurations, including direct RTMP streaming to ESPN+ and Stretch Internet. 

The challenge was bigger than ever before at the 80th edition of the toughest alpine ski race in Kitzbuehel, Austria. Austrian Television showed up with its brand-new OB truck so the stage was set to add some state of the art technology to produce a thrilling TV production with crystal clear images and replays never seen before. The idea was to implement HSSM cameras at every crucial part of the race so that no action was to be missed. LMC supplied 8 Antelope systems in total. A mix of Compact 350, MkIIs and Picos. One Polecam and one GF8 crane were added for extra dynamics, one Pico was embedded in the snow to get as close to the althletes as possible. Framerates were adjusted to every position to get the best compromise between timing and action.
