Johan has lit the event’s main stage for 12 years now - changing his approach dramatically in terms of technology over that time.

The combined technologies allowed the broadcaster to create over 150 continuous hours of live programming across broadcast – NRK 2 – and online streaming through the north Norwegian wilderness that meant new technologies and new ways of thinking were required. Aug 21, 2017 will forever be remembered by the masses as the Great American Eclipse. But for broadcasters, it will be remembered as one of the most impressive technological feats in live stream history!
On the eclipse broadcast, NASA achieved their largest single-day audience on nasa.gov ever totaling at 53.3 million, with 33 million on its Eclipse Live streaming page alone. Combined with NASA’s official eclipse website, traffic on both sites combined totaled at 85.9 million views! According to a NASA spokesperson, this was 7 times more traffic than the previous record held by New Horizon’s Pluto flyby. In short, this was by far the most successful broadcast operation ever accomplished by the space administration.

In keeping with Galileo’s lifetime preoccupation with circles, ellipses and their spatial movement, the Young Vic’s recent interpretation of Bertolt Brecht’s Life of Galileo was also staged in-the-round. Central to the sound design by Tom Gibbons and associate sound designer Dan Balfour was a TiMax SoundHub processor, which provided a uniquely powerful platform for rendering immersive three-dimensional spatialisation of multi-layered sound effects and high-energy music beds, the latter specially-commissioned from one half of The Chemical Brothers, Tom Rowlands.

National Geographic aired a once in a lifetime live show aptly named ‘Earth Live’ on Sunday, July 9th. The program showcased the wonders of the natural world, told through the lenses of cinematographers who dedicate their lives to documenting the extraordinary fauna of our planet. Hosted by Jane Lynch, ‘Earth Live’ was a two-hour live event that required nearly 50 channels of record (many starting days before the broadcast) to cover live feeds transmitting from twenty-eight locations across 17 countries. The production required heavy-duty engineering and resourceful coordination to pull off a Super Bowl-style live broadcast event, that was simulcast globally on National Geographic and Nat Geo Wild in 171 countries and 45 languages.
