Piccard lands in Spain after crossing Atlantic in Solar Impulse 2

Swiss adventurer Bertrand Piccard landed safely in Spain at 07:38 in the morning on Thursday after a record-breaking 71-hour flight across the Atlantic Ocean in his Solar Impulse 2 (Si2) airplane that did not need a single drop of fuel on its journey from New York's JFK International Airport that started on Monday. Near the end of the 15th leg of the solar-powered airplane's circumnavigation of the globe to demonstrate the potential of clean technologies, Piccard got welcome worlds of encouragement from Britain’s Richard Branson during an upbeat radio conversation.

Held on May 8, 2016, the third annual Wings for Life World Run was the biggest and most emotional yet. Global Champions Kaori Yoshida of Japan and Giorgio Calcaterra of Italy smashed course records, with women’s titleholder Yoshida running 65.71km before being passed by the Catcher Car finish line, and Calcaterra pushing to 88.44km to top the men’s field.
