Broadcast Rental selects DTC AEON TX for wireless 4K/UHD program
DTC’s AEON transmitter is known for unrivalled RF and picture performance, but it was also chosen because of the level of service and assistance provided by DTC and Videosys Broadcast. The AEON transmitter, coupled with application specific modification by Videosys, is the only transmitter that offers both 2Ghz and 7Ghz in the same package without the need to swap RF modules. The unit also offers an impressive range of optional upgrades, such as return vision and talkback, that can make a massive cost and time-saving difference to users in the field. GP Slee, CEO of Broadcast Rental said, “4K/UHD is a growth area and we feel that the combination of the DTC AEON camera-back transmitter with the support of DTC and Videosys Broadcast is the best way to address opportunities in this expanding market.
Sony announces new Virtual Production service with Red Bull
At the one-day event, Red Bull Switzerland used Sony’s Virtual Production solution to livestream the entire race to its social media. The remote location of the race placed in Swiss mountains meant that deploying physical production infrastructure would pose a significant challenge. However, thanks to Virtual Production’s cloud-based services and 4G Connectivity, Red Bull was able to capture and broadcast the whole event using only a number of camcorders and a single laptop to access the Virtual Switcher GUI. Sony’s Virtual Production proposition is a simple one: users pay only for what they need, when they need it. The home-grown service has been designed to take the cost out of live production, whilst empowering content creators to grow their reach and revenues.

ES Broadcast delivers SSL System T audio upgrade at The Hospital Club Studios
The project to upgrade the studio to the latest audio technology saw ES Broadcast install a Solid State Logic System T broadcast production environment to replace the existing 15-year-old console in the music control room. The newly installed system allows The Hospital Club Studios to move to a network-driven stage-box solution, explained Jonathan Lyth, ES Broadcast’s Technical Director. “The System T production environment allows audio engineers greater flexibility to move connectivity around the facility with minimal core connectivity requirements. With the SSL installation at the heart of the upgrade project, ES Broadcast undertook several other improvements to the studio facility at the same time, and the company’s expertise in delivering broadcast projects was key, explained Simon Wall, Sound Supervisor at The Hospital Club Studios.
Upgraded learning at Sheffield Hallam
The investment in 30 x AG-DVX200 fixed lens 4K Camcorders has allowed the South Yorkshire University to develop its students learning by upgrading its resources for Film and Media Production students, as well as being available to a variety of other courses. Working with Panasonic's UK and ROI distributor Holdan, the university went through an evaluation stage, where it was supplied with a camera for a testing process. Dominic explains, "The option came up of carrying out a replacement, and previously we had been working with Canon's XF305 because at that point, it was BBC approved, so it was the natural choice for us."

SPORT EVENTS
The future is now at DELA European Beach Volleyball Championships
The DELA Beach European Volleyball Championships is the first event organized in the Netherlands making use of remote production control on such a large scale. Individual camera streams from Apeldoorn, Utrecht and Rotterdam were transmitted via a lightning-fast optical fibre connection to a production vehicle in the beating heart of the tournament, The Hague. All broadcasts and livestreams originated there. “This means big savings on production, equipment and manpower,” says Vos. “You literally need less of everything at each location. We are running a number of projects with remote production control at United, but managing so many feeds at once really is quite a feat.”

See Factor Supplies Elation for Foreigner “Juke Box Heroes” Summer Tour
Last year’s 40th Anniversary Tour was by no means a farewell tour for iconic 70’s/80’s rock band Foreigner. It’s now been 41 years since their debut album and the band behind some of rock’s most classic songs hit the road again in June, kicking off a 30-show “Juke Box Heroes” U.S. tour that has proved to be one of the hottest outings of the summer. Couch Concerts Live from Le Ferrailleur
For the past eleven years, Le Ferrailleur has been a firm fixture on Nantes’ live music scene, bringing fans up close to rock, metal, rap and electronic artists. While the bar can hold a capacity crowd of just under 300 people, the venue’s production team has devised a compact live streaming setup to bring an intimate live music experience to living rooms around the globe. The initial driver behind filming and broadcasting concerts from Le Ferrailleur came from the venue’s tenth-anniversary celebrations. “We decided to put up a big screen as part of a ten day line up of special concerts - even though none of us had any experience of live broadcasting at the time!,” begins François Montupet.

EBU conducts UHD High Frame Rate Tests at European Championships 2018
The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) was leading trials with several EBU Members and industry partners of production workflows to shoot, process, record, and distribute live Ultra High Definition (UHD) content, with High Frame Rates (HFR), High Dynamic Range (HDR), and Next Generation Audio (NGA), at the 2018 European Athletics Championships in Berlin. The event was part of the multi-sport European Championships which took place in Glasgow and Berlin (2nd-12th August). The trials involved the world’s first live distribution of UHD content with both HDR (HLG/BT.2100) and HFR (100 frames per second, 2160p100). Current state-of-the-art live broadcasts don’t exceed a field or frame rate of 50Hz in Europe, and HD interlaced (1080i25) is still the dominant broadcast emission format even though commercial encoders and TV sets manage up to 2160p50 resolution.

Two XT4Ks will be used for the production and output of HD replays inside the stadium while the third will be in a UHD-4K configuration.
