From November, Australian cricket fans will be able to view live matches in greater detail than ever before on Foxtel’s new dedicated UHD (ultra-high definition-4K) channel. The technical partner for this programming is NEP Australia, the region’s leading provider of outsourced television production services. As such, NEP has purchased more than 20 new live production servers from EVS, the leading provider of live production solutions.
Grass Valley and Arena Television demonstrated their collaboration to drive live UHD HDR IP productions at IBC 2018. On display in Hall 9 beside the Grass Valley booth, the new OBZ end-to-end IP UHD HDR truck – the newest in Arena’s fleet of IP-enabled OB trucks – showed how IP-based infrastructures and workflows can be optimized for live OB production environments.

Ekstraklasa Live Park – the top Polish football league’s official broadcaster – will integrate a brand-new replay and content management workflow from EVS, the leading provider of live production solutions. Arena Television (Redhill, UK), providing outside broadcast event coverage to their customers, has just installed Lawo’s System Monitoring and Realtime Telemetry Solution (SMART) for Broadcast Networks in their latest IP-based OB truck. The company is already an extensive user of the vendor-agnostic Lawo VSM IP broadcast control system to establish comprehensive unified workflows across the trucks’ all-IP infrastructure. Polish broadcast provider Ekstraklasa Live Park plans to produce live broadcasts of the Polish Football Premier League in UltraHD for the 2019 season. To meet this ambitious production goal, Ekstraklasa tapped German integrator Broadcast Solutions to build out a new OB van to accommodate both HDR and SDR workflows. Several products from AJA Video Systems, including ten FS-HDR Frame Sync and HDR/WCG Converters, a Ki Pro Ultra Plus recorder/player, and Hi5-4K-Plus and 12GM Mini-Converters will drive and streamline the setup.

Beginning of season 2018/2019 broadcast production company NEP Switzerland is producing all matches of the Raiffeisen Super League (RSL), Switzerland’s premier football league in UHD/HDR. Since the start in July 2018, NEP Switzerland has produced more than 20 matches in the HDR format plus several Euro-League games for Swiss broadcast channel Teleclub.
Gearhouse Broadcast, a supplier of technical facilities, crew and services used to capture the world’s most watched content, has continued its commitment to UHD productions by placing sizeable orders with both Canon and Fujinon for their latest 4K studio/field and ENG lenses. These substantial deals mean that over half of Gearhouse’s global stock of large box lenses is now 4K, making the acquisition of 4K/UHD content easier than ever.
NEP UK supported the first UHD HDR live production of the 2018 Wimbledon Tennis Championship with IP infrastructure from Grass Valley, a Belden Brand. NEP’s latest SMPTE ST 2110 trucks, Venus and Ceres, were deployed to support the newly formed host broadcaster, Wimbledon Broadcast Services (WBS).
Ahead of the 2018 NFL season, AT&T Stadium – the home of The Dallas Cowboys – has installed three new XT4K live production servers from EVS, the leading provider of live production solutions. Sitting alongside several other EVS products already in place, the new servers have been implemented into one of the stadium’s three control rooms, which becomes the main replay hub during Cowboys home games. They will be used to create both HD- and UHD-resolution replays and as the main recording device for all events taking place inside the 100,000-person capacity venue.
