2020 League of Legends World Championship showcased with new technology

The 2020 League of Legends World Championship has a duration of 5 weeks and it is divided in 3 stages: Play-Ins Stage, Groups Stage and Knockout Stage. Only the Grand Final will be at Pudong Stadium, the rest will be held at SMT, in a studio with no audience. XR (Extended Reality) is the main focus of this event. It is known that this will be the first time using XR in competitive scene.

Combining the use of software and hardware, XR (Extended Reality) can be achieved and a new environment will be created, a combination between physical world and digital world. XR is the common name for AR, VR, MR and more type of reality. Utilizing the combination, a sense of “immersion” can be provided due constant conversion between physical world and digital world.

During the opening ceremony, all the participating teams were in the digital space of Summoners Rift. Kate Han, Head of Branding and Events at TJ Sports, said:” during the live stream, XR can provide more animation and dynamics effect, if you watch more closer, you will see that we combined some elements from League of Legends and the city of Shanghai, this is a first time for competitive scene.”

XR is a new upcoming technology, in order to achieve this reality, our staffs gave in a lot of effort and sweat. Since June, the S10 Technical Department had collaboration with multiples parties. A staff from the Technical Department said :” taking in mind of our audience from all over the world. The XR used for this event, we have some elements from Shanghai, elemental dragon, etc.. As the matches advances, more different elements will be inserted. Hope you guys enjoy the show.”
