Japan’s Yomiuri TV Selects TVU One with HEVC for Live Video-Over-IP Remote News Coverage

Resiliency, Picture Quality and Operational Cost Efficiency Put TVU at the Head of the Pack

TVU Networks, the global technology and innovation leader in live IP video solutions, is announcing that its Tokyo-based reseller Star Communications has procured multiple TVU One with HEVC mobile IP newsgathering transmitters for its client, Yomiuri Telecasting Corporation. Based in Osaka, Yomiuri Telecasting serves the Kansai region of Japan and was the first station to be affiliated with Nippon Television Network.

“We conducted multiple road and motion tests to simulate remote news coverage with transmitters from several major manufacturers, and the TVU One with HEVC was, by far, the most reliable among them,” said Mr. Sugimoto, Technical Director, Yomiuri Telecasting Engineering department. “The image quality was excellent and a key factor in our decision. With HEVC support, we’re assured of operational efficiency at a lower cost while achieving high-picture quality at low latency. The TVU One gives us everything we’ve wanted – multi-band embedded modems, long battery life, multi-WiFi with smartphone control – all in a compact package.”

Yomiuri TV will deploy its TVU One with HEVC units for various live news programs, including: “Information Live Miyaneya,” “Wake Up! Plus,” “Ten,” and “Ce Matin.”

The TVU One with HEVC uses both HEVC video compression and TVU’s patented Inverse Statmux Plus (IS+) transmission algorithm. By taking advantage of both, the TVU One with HEVC transmits HD quality video with half-second latency – even in situations where transmission is being done from inside a moving vehicle. It uses less data, with less overhead and performs with greater stability than ever before. TVU One with HEVC is available with embedded modems and can transmit simultaneously over multiple connections, including cellular, microwave, satellite, BGAN, WiFi, and Ethernet.
