EVS introduces new XStore Storage integrating Harmonic's Mediagrid System

High-performance nearline platform simplifies storage offering with flexible unified system

Integrating Harmonic MediaGrid System With EVS XStore Platform Simplifies Media Storage for Live and Near-Live Production Environments

In a product announcement that centralizes the technological core of its storage offering, EVS, the leading provider of live video systems, has partnered with Harmonic, the worldwide leader in video delivery infrastructure, to deliver the new XStore high-performance nearline storage solution. Designed to be as flexible as possible, XStore is optimized for use in studios, broadcast centers and major host broadcasting facilities.

Leveraging Harmonic’s MediaGrid shared storage system, EVS has unified its three XStore products into a single, highly flexible storage platform. Following the formation of an OEM partnership with Harmonic at the 2017 NAB Show, EVS is immediately releasing the new XStore system which unifies EVS’ current XStore range of three products into a single flexible storage solution.

“With this new generation of XStore, we’re simplifying our storage offering – we want to more easily deliver customers highly reliable media storage for live and near-live production environments,” explains Sebastien Maindiaux, product manager at EVS. “It’s designed on a ‘grow as you go’ upgrade basis so it can guarantee flexibility and limit the risk of users not having enough storage capacity to deliver their programming.”

The nearline platform benefits from a fully-redundant technical architecture and comes in various form factors, starting at six RU with redundant and highly available metadata servers and 28TB (or 500 hours of HD content) of capacity. When higher capacities are needed, XStore can scale up to petabytes using four or five RU chassis of up to 500TB. The platform’s high-density form factor maximizes capacity and minimizes rack space, providing valuable space-saving benefits.

The new XStore platform is designed as a unified storage infrastructure that delivers the high performance and reliability that’s expected in any EVS-based production ecosystem.

“This new storage offering will become a key part of any live or near-live infrastructure, allowing creative production teams to do more by giving them immediate access to media through XStore,” said Benoit Quirynen, svp product and market at EVS. “Our development experts chose Harmonic’s MediaGrid technology because not only is it able to cope with the intensity of live and near live productions but also enables simple management of the storage capacity for users.”

The XStore system will be rolled out in a number of installations including several upcoming major global sporting events in 2018. One of the first public demonstrations of the system will be at IBC2017 where the in-house TV channel, IBC TV, will use it for the production of live content throughout the show.

XStore is available immediately and more information can be found on the EVS website at www.evs.com/XStore.
