Hitachi Showcases ‘All Under One Roof’ Broadcast Facility Support Capabilities at CABSAT2016

From cameras to OB trucks, SD to UHD, SDI to IP – Hitachi demonstrates leading broadcast production facility design & construction capabilities

At CABSAT, Hitachi Kokusai Electric Turkey (Stand ZA1-30) will present a new and radically different broadcast systemisation capability. From the latest generation of 4K broadcast system cameras, to the latest developments in its OB-BOX concept and mobile transmission vehicles capable of supporting field-based satellite transmissions, the company offers advanced international broadcast system solution capabilities.

With a bespoke design and manufacturing facility based in Istanbul’s free trade zone, Hitachi provides a combination of market-leading technical capabilities and cost efficiency, all under one roof.

On display at CABSAT will be the latest advances in Hitachi’s OB-BOX, a fully featured modular OB facility which is delivered to the customer and then mounted onto a vehicle’s chassis using a proprietary fixing kit.

This approach significantly reduces the manufacture and delivery time in any market worldwide since it removes the need to source and ship an appropriate vehicle for each customer.

The most important aspect of this revolutionary modular mountable system is its self operating 4-in-1 capabilities. Simultaneously replacing four different vehicles, the OB-BOX meets DSNG (Digital Satellite Newsgathering) applications needs through its on-board 1.5 metre PALS KU band antenna and 15 metre retractable mast fitted with Hitachi’s DK-H100 PTZ camera.

Secondly, it provides sophisticated production resources for up to seven operators. Production equipment installed within OB-Box includes Hitachi’s SK-HD1300 MOS Series 3G Production Cameras, a 2ME vision switcher, a 48x48 router, a 6-in/2-out slow-motion server, sophisticated graphic manipulation capabilities and a digital audio switcher. The unit is fully air conditioned, ensuring reliable equipment operation and operator comfort in any environmental conditions.

Replacing a third vehicle, OB-BOX comes fitted with an 18.5 KVA generator, helping to ensure reliable and robust independent operation in even the harshest environments. Specifically designed for the ME regional climate, OB-BOX comes fitted with 54,000 BTU fully redundant air conditioning systems, ensuring fresh air circulation in the vehicle as well as efficient equipment cooling.

Also, the OB-BOX’s unique design enables on board storage of all cables and drums needed to stage an outside broadcast anywhere, anytime.

“12 months after introducing OB-BOX, we return to CABSAT with a concept that provides everything that a broadcaster will need at significantly lower cost and shorter production cycles than traditional OB solutions,” commented Cemal Yilmaz, General Manager of Hitachi Kokusai Turkey.

Mobile transmission vehicle
Another example of Hitachi’s ‘All Under One Roof’ conceptualization and development capabilities is the company’s Mobile Transmission Vehicle. Designed to enable a broadcaster to get to the news scene and quickly establish links back to the production centre, the off-road vehicle features an on-board 75Ka ‘On The Move’ antenna, which utilizes a combination of Yahsat and LiveU 3G communications to provide rugged and stable satellite communications direct from the field.
