Peachy Playhouse, a new socially distanced entertainment concept developed to deliver safe live performances – comedy, music, children’s shows, etc – during the coronavirus pandemic, closed its summer season at Loseley Park, Guildford, Surrey, UK on a high note. That didn’t just include a spirit-rousing performance and some superlative, funk, soul, dance and hi-hop from the Ambassadors Band, the ground-breaking season, a big leap of faith and some serious planning and investment by Philip French from Peachy Productions, was a resounding success.

The Academy of Country Music (ACM) Awards are held live in Nashville, but the spiritual home of country music looks a little different in 2020, and the awards have also taken on a different complexion to reflect the ongoing pandemic. While the awards ceremony took place live last night in Nashville (8pm EST on CBS / CBS All Access), some of the broadcast was being coordinated two thousand three hundred miles away in Oakland, California by Hugh Grew, a man whose broadcasting and production credentials include the biggest and most high-profile awards ceremonies on the planet. Also managing project and technical elements for Hugh was Ian Kennedy from mDots/Fontastics and Tim Harbaugh from Production Networking.

Zurich Opera House Uses Lawo IP Technology to Enable Remote Production

In the age of social distancing, how can an orchestra and choir create a great musical performance when they cannot be in close proximity to each other? During the coming season, Switzerland’s renowned Zurich Opera House will rely on Lawo IP technology to solve exactly this problem. The need to find a solution for future performances became clear in early 2020, after Switzerland’s lockdown went into effect on 15 March. That solution came in the form of an IP-based Remote Production installation from Lawo, designed specially for WAN-based remote productions. Equipment includes a Lawo mc²36 console, Compact I/O stagebox units, and V__remote4 devices to transport and process video and audio signals, plus an upgrade of the Lawo Nova73 HD Core already installed at the Opera House which adds RAVENNA networking and additional SFP Ethernet ports.

Canadian Premier League’s Island Games Final to reach 135m households in 65 territories around the world

Canada has secured distribution deals with a range of broadcasters around the world, bringing coverage of the Island Games Canadian Premier League 2020 Final between Forge FC and HFX Wanderers to close to 135 million television households in 65 territories. The global exposure is remarkable for a league in only its second season and is a testament to the superb quality of play on the pitch and the world-renowned production values of MEDIAPRO, which will have a crew of 25 professionals onsite at the tournament’s hub in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, to cover the final with 11 cameras, including four super slo-mo cameras. Four broadcasters are airing all 35 games in the 2020 season, led by Fox Sports in the US, which will show a total of 18 matches (37.5 hours of live coverage) on its FS2 linear channel, with the remaining 17 on its dedicated soccer service Fox Soccer Plus (24.5 hours of live coverage). The first match aired on FS2, Pacific FC v York9, earned the highest audience of the day on the channel.

Dejero Transforms KNSD-TV and KUAN-LD’s Mobile Broadcast Truck into Mobile TV Station

Dejero has made it possible for broadcasters NBC San Diego, KNSD-TV and KUAN-LD, to turn its new mobile broadcast truck into a self-contained, end-to-end mobile TV studio. The Dejero equipment on board the truck — including the Dejero GateWay M6E6 network aggregation device, PathWay E encoder, and a WayPoint 104 receiver — gives KNSD-TV and KUAN-LD the bandwidth to work fully independently in the field, processing, editing and distributing live raw video without reliance on teams and equipment located back at the broadcast facility. The truck, which was built by Emmy award-winning truck builder and mobile integrator, Accelerated Media Technologies, (AMT), is able to act as a backup station in case the main broadcast facility needs to be evacuated, a scenario that could have happened during the recent COVID-19 pandemic.
