Tellyo And Sunset+Vine Produce Crufts Young Kennel Club Live WIth Remote Production Delivery

TELLYO AND SUNSET+VINE PRODUCE CRUFTS YOUNG KENNEL CLUB LIVE WITH REMOTE PRODUCTION DELIVERY

Demanding Production Delivered Flexibly and Simply with Tellyo Stream Studio

Tellyo, leading developers of a cloud-based live video editing, clipping, and stream production suite, today announced that they produced the Crufts Young Kennel Club event, the world’s greatest dog show, with Sunset+Vine, for livestreams of the four-day event. The show, held March 5-8, 2020 at the NEC, in Birmingham, England, is organized by the Kennel Club and the Young Kennel Club Ring functions as an all-day, every day program.

Sunset+Vine livestreamed the entire program of the Young Kennel Club Ring, using Tellyo’s Stream Studio product for remote production capabilities and rapid turnaround. Tellyo integrated with Reality Check System’s Singular.Live product to add graphics remotely in Hammersmith, London, using a workflow that would fit neatly alongside other streaming elements at Crufts, which would then simultaneously run through the Tellyo Pro suite.

“Tellyo Stream Studio was the perfect answer to a potentially problematic and expensive question,” said David Stranks, executive producer, digital, Sunset+Vine. “From ease of use and support provided, to the security and speed with which we were able to adjust to changes, using Stream Studio meant that Sunset+Vine were able to not only fulfil all of our contractual obligations, but over-deliver to provide a greater level of service than expected.”

Crufts, with 26,000 dogs attending, is avidly watched by a global fan base, and both Kennel Club and Crufts have expanded their social and digital output over recent years, and the challenge in 2020 was to focus on the Young Kennel Club Ring, with vibrant graphics designed to attract younger viewers in real-time, before livestreaming to the Young Kennel Club Facebook group. The challenge of maintaining solid connectivity between the Crufts event at the NEC in Birmingham to the production studios in Hammersmith, as well as managing the allocated budget, presented a true test of the Tellyo platform.

For Sunset+Vine, shooting and producing on-site included sending the signal back to Hammersmith via a LiveU link over a SIM card cellular connection, then adding graphics to the feed, encoding the feed, and ingesting it into the Tellyo platform, and then out from Tellyo to distributed channels. Sunset+Vine designed an original workflow to make the production happen, yet the downside was the potential risk in connectivity quality of service between Birmingham and Hammersmith. Sunset+Vine’s on-site technical producer felt that a more secure and reliable method was to send the Young Kennel Club output into Sunset+Vine’s on-site OB truck in Birmingham, before encoding and sending it into the Tellyo platform for distribution. While this option would provide a more secure set-up, there was no point in the new workflow where Sunset+Vine could add graphics due to human resource on-site; the original crew tasked with producing the Young Kennel Club stream in Birmingham did not have the ability to add graphics within that workflow. A remote solution for graphics would be required to meet the budget.

“We have worked with Sunset+Vine on various productions, including Crufts, in the past, but this year’s production really challenged us to create a richer experience,” said Richard Collins, CEO of Tellyo. “The demands of live, remote production – particularly a multi-day event – created a workflow that we think can be adopted and replicated to deliver a more expansive, and all-encompassing experience.”
Prior to Crufts, once technical details had been agreed between Sunset+Vine and Tellyo, the need to move quickly became even more crucial as time was ticking. A member of the Tellyo team was able to expertly brief Sunset+Vine’s production crew in just one hour, giving them all the necessary skills they needed to be fully capable to use the intuitive platform. Throughout the set-up for the event and the show itself, Tellyo’s support team was on hand.

“This was a quick turnaround but Tellyo’s confidence and promptness in setting us up meant that we were comfortable and excited to have found a solution to the problems we were facing,” said Will Godsiff, social producer at Sunset+Vine. “What stood out for us was the speed with which we were able to adjust and change our remote production plans based on information from the on-site team. It was quite fast and easy for us to schedule changes, deal with music copyright issues and for graphics creation away from Singular.Live; all those areas were easy to adjust to due to the flexibility that Stream Studio provided us.”
Stream Studio has been designed to integrate fully with Tellyo’s existing platforms, so set up of the initial studio and pulling footage in was simple for Sunset+Vine. It stated it found adding external software - Singular.Live – into Stream Studio to be straightforward with little to no latency issues. Throughout the set up for the event and the show itself, Tellyo’s support team was on hand.

Continued Godsiff: “We had a constant live chat running with Tellyo, updating them of any issues that we encountered. The team’s ability to suggest work arounds was one of the greatest benefits we found.”

“We were extremely happy with the output that Tellyo Stream Studio provided us. It was our first year streaming the Young Kennel Club Ring and using Stream Studio meant that we could keep costs down, but maintain a high-quality output – which is exactly what we were looking for,” said Kieran Stanbridge, senior social media officer, Kennel Club.
