MLB Network Scores a Sweeping Digital Production Studio Upgrade from EVS

Multiple tools enable faster turnarounds, more flexibility and remote content production

MLB Network, Major League Baseball’s 24/7 cable TV network, has upgraded its digital production workflow at its Secaucus, New Jersey headquarters with additional tools from EVS, the leading provider of live video production systems.

A dozen EVS XT and XS series media production servers, including multiple XT3 servers, form the core of the advanced live production workflow, supported by nearly 40 workstations running various applications. The new ingest and playout XT3 servers bring greater flexibility as well as built-in proxies, live multi-angle review, and powerful new 10Gig connectivity. MLB Network is the first sports TV production center to fully utilize 10Gbps on XT3/XS server for 24/7 operations and exponentially faster transfer rates. Along with enhanced IPDirector integrated video production management tools, MLB Network will have the ability to access and manage server content from any desktop environment.

“In addition to more speed and flexibility, we now have tremendous freedom to access and prepare content from anywhere, not just the control room,” said Steve Rittenberg, engineering manager, MLB Network. “We can enter the database, view and select content from storage, and send it to an editor, all from our corporate computer network (LAN), so it’s ready and waiting. That goes a long way toward pre-production efficiency.”

EVS’ Multicam LSM remote controller for instant replays and its companion LSM Connect tablet solution for clips and playlist management allow for a rock-solid yet flexible and intuitive user experience. Xsquare and XTAccess transfer management software enable delivery to multiple destinations on the fly and ensure a seamless integration with third-party storage.
