Teradek Announces New Camera-Back Broadcast Contribution Encoder

.

Today Teradek announced Beam, a camera-back broadcast contribution encoder capable of delivering stunning HD video at bit rates up to 50Mbps.  Beam utilizes H.264 compression and can transmit at distances up to 2500ft with just 2 frames of latency.

“We’re very excited about the release of Beam because it offers broadcasters a new alternative to our popular Cube encoder and Bolt transmitter,” said Nicol Verheem, CEO of Teradek. “With the capability to transmit at very high bit rates and over long distances, Beam gives broadcasters an incredibly powerful tool for use as a wireless link back to the OB van or as a contribution encoder feeding live HD video back to the station.”

Beam operates over the unlicensed 5GHz band and includes a variety of features well-suited to professional broadcasters, including an HD-SDI input, two-way IFB, RTSP and MPEG-TS protocol support, and multicasting, which allows 4 receivers to be used with a single transmitter at one time. Beam also supports high power transmission on the 5.15 ~ 5.25GHz band in accordance with new FCC regulations. This means that the wireless feed will be more resilient and will get better range.
