Snell to Demonstrate State-Of-The-Art Technologies for Media Processing, Management and Control

New innovations for Live TV and TV Everywhere take center stage

At NAB 2014, from April 7-10 in Las Vegas, Snell will be showcasing new innovations across its Live TV and TV Everywhere divisions. This will include the first application for the Snell On Demand platform and new features for key products.

Visitors to the booth will also learn how Snell can enable them to make the transition to more cost effective and efficient IP-based production workflows, using a combination of specialist broadcast technologies and generic IT systems. A range of Snell solutions that help customers boost revenue, work more efficiently and maximize profitability in an ever-changing consumer viewing landscape will also be on display.

Momentum – powerful media asset management and workflow automation designed for TV Everywhere – Snell will present new features for Momentum, its breakthrough solution for Media Asset Management and Workflow Automation. Enabling complex workflows to be managed easily, it forms a key part of Snell’s ‘Media Factory’ software-based media management and processing solution. Active directory support enables users to drive security policies via centralized IT systems, while separate audio and caption files can now be managed more easily. Proxy browse capability can be used to manage captions and subtitles and the HTML5 browser-independent interface supports a choice of web browsers. The Published Web Services API allows simple interactions among business systems and FIMS compliance extends the choice of controlled systems, including Snell’s Alchemist OD application.

Alchemist OD – format and frame rate conversion On Demand – The first application for Snell’s On Demand framework, Alchemist OD is designed specifically for content owners, post-production facilities and playout service providers. It safeguards the highest image quality and offers simple integration. It offers a scalable, low-cost motion compensated format and frame rate conversion software available on demand. A Service Oriented Architecture and floating license model makes for a versatile solution that easily adapts to changing business requirements. The system stems from Snell’s Media Factory concept, combining Snell’s unique, Emmy award-winning image processing technology with generic IT equipment.

ICE Channel-in-a-Box — twice the graphics capability, smaller footprint – ICE-LE is the new version of Snell’s industry-leading ICE Channel-in-a-Box. Perfect for situations where space is at a premium, it provides more streamlined functionality in a 1RU configuration. The latest new version of ICE now provides twice the 2D or 3D graphics capability within a standard 2RU system. Now shipping with Version 4.0 software, it offers Nielsen audience tracking including C3 capabilities and integrated loudness control for compliance with international regulations. A ‘Variplay’ feature option speeds up noncritical material to compress time and make space for more essential playout. In partnership with Quantum, Snell will also be showcasing ICE SAN for large-scale shared content storage, allowing multiple ICE units to instantly access media. Both a high-performance enterprise model and a lower-cost option are available.

Kahuna Maverik – handle multiple-M/E productions with a truly flexible control surface – A game-changing new modular control surface for Snell's industry-leading Kahuna 360 multi-format production switcher range, Kahuna Maverik will make its NAB debut. It provides technical directors with a flexible, quick, reliable access control interface for every type of studio and mobile television programming. It allows fast configuration and set-up time for a quick studio turnaround between shows and offers 4K support. It also mirrors the studio's operation and has a compact footprint. Crystal clear OLED buttons with user-assignable thumbnails, a touch-screen at the M/E level rather than on a separate GUI, and the ability to assign RGB values to buttons provide quick, clean navigation. Unlike traditional switcher control surfaces Maverik modules can be assembled in a huge variety of configurations, and without compromising precious desk space.

At NAB 2014, Snell will also showcase new updates and features for its Sirius 800 router range, Luna router control panels and its Modular IQ range, including a new 4K UHD downconverter and the first product to incorporate Snell’s new Media Biometrics technology.
