New ARD ‘Tagesschau’ Studio Receives Sinus – Systems Integrations Award

Recognition for outstanding application of media technology and systems integration

The Sinus – Systems Integration Award is presented this year forcompletion of the new ARD (Consortium of German Regional PublicBroadcasters) ‘Tagesschau’ studio. This new production environmentincorporates state-of-the-art technology and is innovative in terms of itsoptical design.

It has been home to Germany's most successful newsprogramme since April last year. The Sinus is awarded for the creativeapplication of AV media technology and systems integration. The awardceremony will take place on 16 April as part of the Prolight + Sound tradefair and this preeminent industry award will be presented to thecontracting clients ‘Norddeutscher Rundfunk’ and ‘ARD-aktuell’ alongwith the companies involved in the project.

In addition to the news presenters’ innovative desks, the mostconspicuous feature of the fully refurbished studio is the 17 metre long,semi-circular multi-media wall, which enables the rear projection ofcontent such as photographs, videos and 3D graphics across its wholewidth. It offers a very high resolution of 8.8 million pixels and certainelements can be operated interactively, the first time this has beenpossible on a curved surface using primeTOUCH technology.

The studio also provides for the efficient networking of editorial input, programmeplanning, automation and on-air graphics. Studio Hamburg MediaConsult International (MCI) GmbH was responsible for the planning,installation, delivery and commissioning of a universal HDTVinfrastructure and also for optimisation of the programme flow usingautomatically controllable cameras and editorial equipment. It managedthe complete refurbishment of the studio's technical production facilitiestogether with the Israeli company Orad Hi-Tec Systems, AmbionGmbH from Kaufungen in North Hesse and Lang AG from Lindlar. Theyare all honoured with this Sinus – Systems Integration Award,presented this year in the 'infotainment' category.

Once successfully commissioned, the new studio has been broadcastingall editions of ‘ARD-aktuell’, comprising 20 editions of the 'Tagesschau'news programme each day in addition to the 'Tagesthemen',‘Nachtmagazin’ and ‘Wochenspiegel’ programmes.

Sinus – Systems Integration Award
This special award has been presented since 2004 in a differentcategory each year as part of Prolight + Sound, the most internationallypreeminent trade fair for technologies and services for events,installation and production. It recognises projects that demonstrateinnovative and pioneering application of media technology and systemsintegration. The jury and board of trustees of the award are made up ofrepresentatives of the German Association of Media and EventTechnology (Verband für Medien- und Veranstaltungstechnik - VPLT)and the European Association of Event Centres (Europäischer Verbandder Veranstaltungs-Centren e.V. - EVVC) in addition to industry experts,trade press representatives and Messe Frankfurt.

The award ceremony will take place in the 'Saal Europa’ of Hall 4.0 at6.30 pm on 16 April. The Opus German Stage Award (Opus DeutscherBühnenpreis), the Musikmesse International Press Award (MIPA) andthe Prolight + Sound Press Award will also be presented on the sameevening and together with the Sinus – Systems Integration Award theyform part of the trade fair evening event programme. It provides animportant meeting point for the industry around all aspects of eventtechnology, systems integration, AV media technology, studiotechnology and broadcasting.
