Broadcast Solutions and ProSat Solutions at IBC 2010 - A Review

A complete live s3D Workflow was presented at the HD-Broadcast OB-Truck together with Wireworx, Snell, EVS and Imartis. The Swissrig, a established 3D Mirrorrig, was used together with two Sony HDC-1500 Cameras and Canon Lenses. Inside of the Truck the Snell Kahuna Mixer processed the Signals and the 3D Parameters, analyzed by Imartis’ and Fraunhofer Institutes Software Tools. All the visitors could watch the live-3D-sequences inside the truck, Slow Motion replay was realized by a EVS XT[2]+ Server.

The 16-Camera OB-Van, a 12m semitrailer with a 1,30m side drawer, two video control rooms and one audio 5.1 control room as well as the clever room layout and the technical equipment gained the linkings of all visitors.

The new concept of a compact 5-Camera OB Van “compact 5” based on a 3,5t Mercedes sprinter was a crowd-puller at the broadcast solutions booth this year and many visitors liked the modular flighcase-concept. Equipped with a 1.5 ME Videomixer, Realtime Graphic-Engine and Character Generator by For-A and a Yamaha Audiomixer this vehicle is a real alternative against bigger OB-Trucks especially at Sports, Shows or smaller TV-Events. With the Abekas 8-Channel Videoserver and a ProSat Solutions Satcom System the “compact 5” is a cost-effective and flexible solution for different kinds of TV and Newsproductions.

Wireworx presented a “smart fortwo” car, developed for a promotion-production for www.smart-studio.tv by the agency FischerAppelt. The car is equipped with 5 miniature cameras, microphones and a synchronized compact-flash based recording system. At the IBC all Signals were transmitted to the OB Truck so the visitors could watch the different camera angles.

The HD-SNG1, a 5-Camera premium HD-DSNG Vehicle with a 2,4m Antenna was provided by ZDF for the convention. This 18tons heavy vehicle was designed for Sport, Show and TV Productions, equipped with a Snell 2ME Kahuna Videomixer, a Yamaha Audiomixer and a fully redundant uplink for up to 3 simultaneously HD-Feeds.

ProSat Solutions exhibited all the Highlights of its product range. Starting with motorized VSAT antennas over 1.2 and 1.5 meter state of the art SNG systems to a hybrid Suitcase/FlyAway System, controllers and encoding Systems, ProSat Solutions was showing complete Satcom Solutions, clever and cost-effective for every need in the field of Satellite communication.

The attendance this year at the booth of Broadcast Solutions as well as at the whole IBC convention was better then the recent years. Many visitors found their way to the center located booth and spent some time by drinking a tasty coffee in the late summer sun by watching and discussing broadcast solutions products.
