LaLiga and MEDIAPRO have scooped up a SPIA award for their innovative audiovisual broadcasting of football matches. SPIA, the conference and awards platform of the Asian sports industry, held its sixth awards ceremony to distinguish the top actors in the fields of the sports business, tourism, technology, marketing and sponsorships, as well as picking Asia's top team and sportsmen and women. This year, due to the circumstances caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, they created a special awards edition recognising the world of sport's response to the situation. Two hundred and fifty experts voted for the winners in seven categories, including 'sports technology innovation of the year', an award won by LaLiga in conjunction with MEDIAPRO for the way in which they adapted their broadcasting technology to the matches. "It's an honour for LaLiga's work on innovation projects to receive recognition, as it is one of the pillars of our strategy, and even more so in such an important forum for our region," Ivan Codina, LaLiga's director for South-East Asia assured with regard to the award.

Riedel’s New MediorNet MicroN UHD Signal Distribution Devices Drive UHD Broadcasts for WDR’s Newest OB Van
Riedel Communications today announced that German public broadcaster WDR is among the first European customers to adopt Riedel’s all-new MediorNet MicroN UHD media distribution and processing device. WDR is deploying 13 MicroN UHD devices to support live HD and UHD broadcasts using Ü3, the broadcaster’s newest OB van. Broadcast Solutions, a Germany-based systems integrator, is providing engineering and installation services for the Ü3 project.

The University of Central Lancashire has created a future-proof UHD-capable studio for improved teaching using Panasonic Professional Camera Systems. The £550,000 studio upgrade enabled the university to move from SD to UHD with the option of HDR, and a 12G workflow environment to reduce cable requirements, in a six week project carried out before the new academic year.

Grass Valley today announces that Kazakhstan Media Center, Kazmedia, has selected its HD-enabled cameras as part of a comprehensive studio upgrade at its Kazmedia Ortalygy facility in Nur Sultan (formerly Astana). The new equipment provides access to full HD acquisition capability to deliver enhanced media services to its customers, including production and broadcast services for seven national television channels and three radio stations. The deployment forms part of a broader move to overhaul Kazmedia’s facilities, allowing the broadcast services provider to meet the rising demand for high-quality live content and news services. The new camera chains will support live news, sports and studio-based entertainment shows. Kazakhstan-based Okno TV is undertaking the studio upgrade.

Lightswitch redesign preserves lighting magic for adaptive driving experience
