tpc chooses BFE's KSC CORE Control System for its All-IP SMPTE ST 2110 Technology Center

The object of the "Metechno" project is the realization of a new sports, news and technology center for the Swiss broadcast service provider tpc in Zurich. The technology center will provide technical and operational solutions for the entire production chain, from acquisition through studio and post-production to aggregation of the planned content. The project will implement innovative technologies including new workflows to enable future-oriented working methods. In addition, the technical infrastructure is designed in a way that all production areas can create their products independently of specific production formats. tpc pursues an "online first" strategy regarding content provision.

As part of the project, BFE will create a detailed solution design for the central broadcast control systems and then install and commission three large KSC CORE control systems in the areas of acquisition and main control room, studio and post production as well as aggregation and playout. An important criterion for tpc is the intuitive user interface of the KSC CORE control system solution, which ensures high user acceptance. The signal transmission infrastructure is based on SMPTE ST 2110 standard IP networks. Further special features of the project are the connection of traffic management and automation to the control system. Also noteworthy is the integration of all three KSC CORE control systems into the central "IP orchestration layer" in order to implement event-based workflows as well as central resource management and resource utilization.

In the "Metechno" project, technical concepts are fundamentally renewed in order to optimize the entire process chain from material receipt to distribution and to prepare it for the future. A completely new system landscape will be designed to replace the current infrastructures of signal management, broadcast operation and various production systems. BFE's KSC CORE control system solution offers the necessary flexibility and integration depth with other systems and devices to efficiently and flexibly manage all signal paths.

Scott Lührs, Head of Division KSC Controller Systems at BFE, says: "We are delighted to be involved in such an innovative project. With the three KSC CORE systems, we are implementing a system concept for tpc that will fundamentally revolutionize production and broadcasting processes.”
