OB Van equipped with LDX 86 HiSpeed cameras and Karrera K-Frame switcher

Düsseldorf-based Triofilm TV has turned to Grass Valley, a Belden Brand, for the latest broadcast technologies. To equip its outside broadcast (OB) van, Triofilm added three LDX 86 HiSpeed (HS) cameras to its previous investment of 22 LDX cameras, the Karrera K-Frame Video Production Center with two panels, a large 3 M/E and a compact 2 M/E Karrera Control Surface, and an NVISION 8280 Hybrid 3G Router. The equipment has already been deployed for live entertainment and various sporting events such as major soccer competitions.

Triofilm TV, a long-time Grass Valley customer, explicitly choose Grass Valley for the flexibility in the connectivity of the cameras as well as the affordability of the equipment. The LDX 86 HS 3X/1X camera is the perfect solution for live sports and entertainment productions, offering up to 3X speed operation in 1080i and 720p, with an additional 1X standard-speed "live" output for seamless integration with standard-speed cameras used in a production.

Users also get extended color gamut supporting ITU-R BT.2020 and an optional software upgrade to enable 15 F-stops of high dynamic range (HDR) in single-speed operation. The LDX 86 HS is upgradable via GV-eLicenses on a 1-day, 7-day or perpetual basis to the next level of functionality within the camera range.

Uwe Beier, managing director of Triofilm TV explains, “We selected the LDX 86 HiSpeed cameras from Grass Valley because they offer the most technologically advanced quality for multiple formats. If required, the GV-eLicenses allow us to use all of our LDX 86 Series cameras at the same time in XtremeSpeed operation (6X super-slow motion). But above all, we value the local support and the great service that Grass Valley has provided us over the many years of our business relationship.”

Triofilm also selected the Karrera K-Frame for the ultimate mid-range switcher performance, with proven workflows and simplified control of complex productions and exceptional affordability, with up to 80x48 I/Os in 6 RU. The Karrera gives Triofilm the ability to share resources from a single frame across two different panels—the 3 M/E in the main control room and the 2 M/E in the secondary or sub-control room—which is ideal when working on two different projects.
