Sommer Cable @ ProLight + Sound 2012: Stand 8.0 J40

The new SOMMER CABLE main catalogue with almost 500 pages will be available in time for the Prolight+Sound 2012

Just in time for the Prolight+Sound 2012 SOMMER CABLE is presenting two entirely new product ranges under the “CARDINAL DVM“ brand. The DVM120 Series consists of 7 different problem fixers and long-awaited audio tools for professional live and studio applications. All devices have the same indestructible, well-conceived and no-compromise housing design made of an extremely solid 3mm extruded profile.

Due to the front and connection plates recessed by 18mm all controls and connectors – including the active components – are optimally protected against e.g. boot kicks in the tough daily routine on stage or in the studio. All active devices are equipped with an internal power supply, suitable for operating voltages between 90 and 240V (50/60HZ). The mains supply is provided via a high-quality combined IEC switch/fuse unit. The supplied locking IEC power cord ensures safe contact making.

Perfect sound is guaranteed, among other things, by special transformers made by high-end manufacturer LUNDAHL from Sweden, high-grade electronic components and connectors and a designer team with decades of experience. Precisely this experience also lead to the development of special products like the 2-channel HIGH-Z DI box. The aim was an uncompromising solution for connecting passive sources. The high input impedance of about 560 kohms (switchable to 280 kohms) allows the direct, quasi loss- and noisefree connection to the mixing console or preamplifier.

The series consists of the following devices:
DVM-120-TDI Tube Direct Box – the flexible tool for delicate sources
The combination of a very high impedance input and a high-class buffered valve stage takes care of very sensitive signal sources in an optimal manner. So for instance the high-Z input will prevent the overloading of the pickup output. The input has two bridged 6.3 mm jack sockets plus a 1:1 valve-buffered OUTPUT jack socket. Parallel a balanced and electrically isolated low-impedance signal is output at the rear XLR socket via a Lundahl transformer. With the GAIN switch the gain factor is selected.A GROUND LIFT switch for the input section and a GROUND-ON switch for the XLR output help to prevent ground loops.

DVM-120-HZDI High-impedance Dual Direct Box – the specialist!
The simple and reliable way of adapting even very demanding sources to microphone inputs. The special high-quality Lundahl transformers with 22 dB or 28 dB attenuation are suitable for high input levels and stand out by their ultra low distortion and neutral response even down to sub-low frequencies. On the input side, each channel has two bridged jack sockets; if necessary, the input and output grounds can be linked with the ground lift switch. The output signals are on male XLR connectors.

DVM-120-DLI Dual Line Box – the dual-channel troubleshooter!
The Lundahl 1:1 line transformer used in this dual-channel device was custom-developed for applications with very high levels. It stands out by its ultra low distortion and a neutralresponse down to extremely low frequencies. So for instance the Dual Line Box is perfectly suitable for the electrical isolation of active PA components or high-level line sources.Input signals are fed either via 6.3 mm jack or female XLR sockets. Both channels have discrete ground lift switches to disconnect input and output grounds as required. The output signals are on male XLR connectors.

DVM-120-HPA Variable Phones Amp – the multi-purpose mini mixer
A dual-channel amplifier with XLR inputs, tone control and level control provides the basis forthe main path. There is an additional auxiliary input with an XLR/jack combi socket which can be mixed to the main signal using a dedicated control. The stereo switch is used to switch between stereo and mono modes. In stereo mode, the sub/pan control is used for setting the balance of the main signal. In mono mode, the Aux and Sub inputs are mixed with the main path via their own controls – turning it into a compact three-channel mixer.Headphones can be connected on the front via two 6.3 mm jack sockets. All inputs are electronically balanced and can be switched between +4 dBu and –10 dBV nominal level.

DVM-120-SPS Remote Controlled Speaker Selector and
DVM-120-SPR Remote Monitor Controller
These dual-channel units serve to connect two loudspeaker pairs with one monitoring output – a typical studio situation. The switching of the line level signals before the active loudspeakers or power amplifiers is done in the balanced signal path using high-quality signal relays. In addition to the DVM-120-SPS Speaker Selector, the DVM-120-SPR Monitor Controller has a level control via an incremental rotary encoder; the adjustment is done using a display which indicates the level dB-perfect.The functions can be controlled using a remote control (connection via Cat5/Cat6 standard patch cable).

The DVM194 Series comprises 4 special components for installation, live and studio purposes. Due to the ¼ 19“ housing design these can be mounted into the widespread SYSBOXX housing system by SOMMER CABLE and also integrated into all common housing systems according to DIN 41494, enabling a combination of connecting units and active electronics. All devices are powered via a 4-pole XLR connection with 24V DC (general standard) – system power supplies are also available in the series. In addition to the devices presented here, we are planning to launch other models anytime soon. For instance, the series shall be upgraded by a keyboard submixer (with volume pedal connection), a 100V transformer unit for ELA technology, and also an IPod interface.During the development phase the wishes of our customers and users were given utmost priority. For in the commercial sector it’s not alwasy easy to find the right appliances for integration. Moreover, they should offer an easy and intuive operation – because you don’t always have specialists on hand for these jobs. Another important aspect is the integration into furniture or racks as the connections aren't always where they should be.Highly recommendable for installations in the conference or catering sector and also for studio and stage applications.

As of now, the following models are available:
DVM-19/4-MIX – the marvellous mini mixer
The dual mix-bus design allows a high degree of flexibility. Thus every input signal can bemixed individually with the two mix buses. This allows the individual control of 2 sound zones, e.g. in the catering trade.

The two microphone inputs are fitted with switchable phantom power and a selectable high-pass filter (on the back via DIP switch – only to be set by “experts“). A tone control is provided on the front for quickly changing the overall sound. The dual LED display perchannel (–20/0 dB) provides an easy level control. The inputs have Euroblock terminals (with 3.5 mm contact spacing).
The two stereo line inputs can be fed in on the rear via RCA sockets. Input 2 has also aswitched mini jack socket on the front. Spindle potentiometers are provided on the backas gain controls both for the microphone and line inputs.
In addtion to the individual bus level controls, the overall level is displayed for each mix bus by an 8-segment LED bargraph (–30, –24, –18, –12, –6, 0, +6, +12 dB). The outputsignals of mix bus A are fed to male 3-pole XLR sockets and those of mix bus B toEuroblock terminals.
