Perform takes sports broadcasting to new heights with Avid iNews and Avid Interplay
The end-to-end Avid broadcasting workflow solution, which includes Avid iNews and Avid Interplay, will help Perform to more effectively manage and realise the value of the content that they own and manage on behalf of their high-profile sports clients such as Chelsea Football Club and the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour. Perform currently streams more than 15,000 live events each year – as well as streaming thousands of hours of short form VOD highlight packages distributed to the web and mobile phones and complete games streamed on the internet after the game has finished.
Andy Measham, chief operating officer at Perform, said: “Clients around the world trust us 24/7, 365 days a year to take care of and monetise their high-ticket sports content. In a demanding world where everything is required now, we need to be confident of delivering their assets securely and instantaneously to many different digital outlets – from TV and the web to the mobile phone. We need a solution we can rely on at every point of this process – from ingest right through to final distribution. That’s why we chose Avid because their technology meets our demands.”
He added: “Avid iNews, Interplay and Capture manager systems have enabled us to move to a tapeless workflow. This all-digital environment makes it much easier, safer and quicker for us to create, manage, distribute and repurpose our clients’ assets, whenever and to wherever they want.”
Paul Hennessy, vice president of sales EMEA for Avid, said: “In this multi-channel, multi-format world content owners need to be able to have the confidence and ability to easily manage and monetise their content. The open Avid end-to-end workflow solution allows Perform to do just that for their high-profile sports and entertainment clients around the world. We’re delighted to continue this winning partnership.”
Avid Products are the Hub of Perform's new Broadcast Workflow
The Avid iNews content creation and distribution system will be at the hub of Perform’s new broadcast workflow, integrating journalists in the field with its producers and editors on site to ensure content can be viewed remotely at every stage in the post-production environment. iNews will also play a central role as part of Perform’s playout and delivery pipeline. Avid’s Interplay system sits at the heart of its video-on-demand and craft editing solutions to provide it with media and metadata sharing across projects. Two new Avid NewsCutter DX finishing systems complete the new investment.
The current set-up at Perform enables them to ingest sporting content from incoming fibre, satellite, tape and FTP transfer into 10 Avid AirSpeed servers controlled by a capture manager. Completing the system are two 16TB Avid Unity ISIS media networks and their existing Interplay, as well as seven Avid NewsCutter systems, one Avid Media Composer and one Avid Nitris.
