NAB 2012: Glensound Commentary With RTS Intercom

Find Glensound Electronics Ltd at Stand C1248

The Glensound COIN GT-013 is first of a new generation of commentary and intercom units.  In some broadcast infrastructures, the line between commentary and intercom systems is blurring.  The COIN range was established to produce hybrid units featuring the ‘best of both worlds’ from elite global developers in each specialist area.  Leading commentary system designer ‘Glensound Electronics Ltd.’, provide the commentary interface, with leading intercom system design RTS/Telex, providing the intercom interface.  The result is the world’s first dedicated commentary and intercom unit, the COIN GT-013/KP.

The COIN GT-013 is a single commentator system in the ‘Glensound’ style that many operators and engineers will be deeply comfortable with.  Featuring an impressive microphone front end with low noise pre-amps (48v switchable) and a compressor limiter system, it can accommodate the whispers of snooker commentary extending to the roars of football commentary.

The headphone monitoring section offers three inputs with adjustable level controls and left/right/both headphone switching.  The first input features the commentators own voice, the second, a local input (programme) and the third presents an interesting alternative; the third monitoring source features the input from the RTS/Telex Intercom system.

The top of the GT-013 is a genuine 4 key Telex intercom panel that has been integrated into the dedicated Glensound commentary box.  Each of the 4 channels can be assigned to a location on any point of the Telex intercom matrix.  The first three channels are selected and fixed by the operator using the rotary encoder and individual screen per channel which are then fixed to those sources.  The fourth acts as a roaming incoming feed; any non-assigned communication from the matrix will come through on input four and show its source in the display.  This is, therefore, three fixed channels and one roaming for the remainder of the matrix.

The rear of the unit has the main commentator programme output, a RTS/Telex output of the intercom only and the link to connect to the RTS/Telex main intercom frame.

The COIN GT-013 is the first dedicated hybrid commentary unit featuring an independently constructed commentary and intercom systems both designed for excellence.  They have been integrated into a single system benefiting users that want to avoid compromise by employing a bolt on commentary or intercom option, thus highlighting the advantages of maintaining the unique features of both in a single unit.

“We are very excited at our new Coin range.  The work with RTS/Telex has given us some truly unique products that should provide a great one box solution for broadcasters.” Commented Glensound’s Sales And Marketing Manager Marc Wilson.
