Launch of GX Server - New Fill & Key Playout Server

GX Server

EVS announces the launch of its new GX Server, a 1U HD/SD fill and key playout server offering full control capabilities from all standard switchers and controllers. GX server will be available as of October 2010.

EVS introduces the GX Server, a 1RU rack server offering powerful and instant graphics playback functions for all types of live studio and OB production environments. The new system was designed to meet the broadcast industry’s current needs for a highly efficient and reliable speed-to-air control system for clips and graphics. Based on proven technology, notably during world-class events, the new platform is robust and reliable. All of the material and parts are made in Europe by EVS.

Built as a truly open architecture, GX Server supports all of the most widely-used control protocols, allowing different media formats to be easily imported and immediately brought to air under external mixers and controller device commands.

According to Bernard Stas, EVS’s General Product Manager, “GX Server combines clip and graphic playout features in a cost-effective 1RU server and as such is a valuable new asset in our growing range of servers. The new platform design is a direct result of our fieldwork and search for a simple and efficient tool offering maximum control from external devices and at the same time able to speed up the fill and key playout process during live production”.

GX Server offers multiple media inputs for maximum flexibility and efficiency: DVD drive, USB and GigE network ports, and eSATA hard drive. It handles audio files, which can either be embedded into the media file or associated manually with the files. Once the files are associated, they can play once, as a loop or in a nested loop.

The GX is ideal for HD graphics playout. In order to sustain the bandwidth required for uncompressed HD graphics files, it uses a high-performance internal RAID storage based on solid state technology. The solution not only offers instant recall and large storage space for multiple clips, but also unrivalled performance and reliability in a very compact chassis.

The system set up and media import can be easily managed from the intuitive user interface built into the server and accessible from any computer connected to the same network.
