Grass Valley Solutions and Innovators Take Center Stage at SMPTE 2016 Annual Technical Conference & Exhibition

At the upcoming SMPTE 2016 Annual Technical Conference & Exhibition, Grass Valley, a Belden Brand, will be showcasing many of its leading technologies in the Ray Dolby Exhibit Hall Booth #217, while company executives will be active in conference sessions and other SMPTE activities. A highlight of the event will be the presentation of the prestigious David Sarnoff Medal Award to Peter G. M. Centen, vice president of research and development, cameras, Grass Valley, for his contributions to the industry. SMPTE 2016 is taking place October 24-27 at the Hollywood and Highland Center in Los Angeles. At the event, Grass Valley will show attendees how it is enabling “Content Your Way” with innovative solutions for live production, news, content delivery and networking.

Product highlights at the booth include the new LDX 86N Series camera, GV Node Real-Time IP Processing and Edge Routing Platform, GV Korona K-Frame S-series video production center and Densité IP Gateway and Infrastructure solutions. These solutions, as part of the broad Grass Valley portfolio, are designed to help customers be more efficient and profitable.

On Monday evening, October 24, Grass Valley’s Peter G. M. Centen will receive The David Sarnoff Medal Award, which recognizes outstanding contributions to the development of new techniques or equipment that have improved the engineering phases of television technology, including large-venue presentations. The award is in recognition of his work in image sensors, imaging, and broadcast camera innovation. Centen has been at the forefront of CCD and CMOS image sensor technology, and in 2003 he was awarded an Emmy® for the development of high-definition dynamic pixel management (HD-DPM) for CCD sensors.

On Tuesday, October 25, Ian Fletcher, CTO, Grass Valley, will be named as one of the new SMPTE Fellows for 2016. Fletcher’s career began at the BBC, where he worked as a sound engineer before setting up his video production company. He grew increasingly interested in the potential of new low-cost microcomputers to bring innovative solutions to the broadcast industry and formed OmniBus Systems, where as chief technology officer, he spearheaded many technological revolutions in the broadcast industry, including the transition from tape- to server-based systems, news automation, large-scale multichannel automation, and the groundbreaking, software-based playout system, iTX. Following Omnibus’ acquisition, Fletcher has continued to drive the development of software systems for Grass Valley, particularly in the emerging areas of cloud playout and virtualization. He holds two patents for video image identification and cloud-based playout and has received many industry accolades, including the coveted Queen’s Award for Innovation.
