Genelec Has Double Presence at Prolight+Sound and MusikMesse 2014

.

At this year’s Messe in Frankfurt, Genelec is taking its presence further than ever before. It will demonstrate the latest pro monitoring products in Hall 8.0, and in Hall 5.1 music creation products with DJ Paul Loraine performing live with Genelec.

Genelec is showcasing two product innovations on Stand 8.0-H25 at Prolight + Sound 2014. The recently launched 8010, a compact-sized professional monitor is available for listening first time for the public in Europe, while the 1238A three-way Smart Active Monitor SAM™, is making its Prolight + Sound debut.

The 8010 is the newest and smallest member of Genelec 8000 product range. Suitable for professional work in small studios it offers accurate monitoring capability with ease of installation. The outstanding sound quality makes 8010 ideal for small studios, OB vans, and a perfect companion for portable recording devices and other mobile production work.

The 8010 has a balanced XLR input, 3-inch woofer, 3/4-inch tweeter and efficient Class D power amplifiers (one for each driver) which produce more sound pressure level than you might expect from a monitor of this size. The Intelligent Signal Sensing ISS™ circuitry saves energy by automatically putting the monitor to sleep when the audio signal has been absent for a while. There is a full range of versatile mounting accessories for the 8010, some of which will also be on display at the show.

The 1238A is a three way monitoring loudspeaker which has the capability and intelligence to adapt to its acoustical environment with the help of Genelec Loudspeaker Manager GLM™ and AutoCal™. This includes aligning levels at the listening position, delays from the signal input to the listening location, and compensating for acoustical room influences in the frequency responses.

The 1238A features a 15” (380mm) bass driver, 5” (130mm) midrange driver and a 1” (25mm) metal dome tweeter where the mid and the high frequency drivers are mounted in the proprietary Directivity Control Waveguide, DCW™,  which allows the system to reproduce flat frequency response both on and off its acoustical axis allowing for a wider sweet-spot. Each of drive units has a power amplifier with a total rating of 500W for the woofer, 250W for the mid-range, and 200W for the tweeter. Frequency response runs from 35Hz up to 21 kHz +/- 2.5 dB.

The 1238A can be either flush-mounted (complete with rack-mount amplifier) or free standing. The monitor is designed for various applications including recording studios, broadcasting control rooms, pre/post production rooms, as well as drama studios and mastering rooms.

For the first time ever, Genelec is also in Hall 5.1, stand A09. At this stand it is showing the M Series products, launched at last year’s Prolight + Sound. The demonstrations include DJ Paul Loraine of Rhythm Cult playing different genres through a pair of M040s. Stand visitors will have a chance of winning a pair of award winning M030s by filling in a questionnaire related to the M Series.

Genelec M Series active monitors are aimed towards the Music Creation market, especially DJs and home studios. The M030 and M040 both feature environmentally friendly features like energy efficient Class D amplifiers, Intelligent Signal Sensing ISS power management for lower power consumption, and the Natural Composite Enclosure NCE, which is made of a half-wood composite, thus reducing the carbon footprint of these products. The industrial design, which follows Genelec tradition, is by Harri Koskinen and it ensures minimal diffraction and controlled directivity as the professionals are used to having with Genelec active monitors.
