Facility House Opts for RTS Communication for New OBV 6

Dutch broadcast specialist Facility House adds OBV 6 to its fleet

With the new, HD-capable OBV 6, Dutch broadcast specialist Facility House extends its fleet of mobile production units. Built according to the latest technical standards and meeting the most stringent environmental standards, OBV 6 supports up to eight HD cameras. The OB truck is well suited for medium to large productions such as entertainment and talk shows as well as sport broadcasts – both in standard and high definition.

“In the Netherlands, more and more TV programs are changing from SD to HD”, explains Jan de Pijper, Owner and Vision Engineer at Facility House. “For us, it was therefore important to build not only a truck that is HD-capable, but also to have this completed by the beginning of the new season.” Based on the successful experiences, Facility House wanted a new truck that would have both the same look and the same feel as the flagship OBV 5. Jan de Pijper: “This ensures a maximum flexibility in use for our customers and for us. Additionally, customers and technicians are familiar with both the set-up and functions of the truck.”

As in its predecessor, Facility House again relied on an intercom system from RTS for the OBV 6. The centerpiece of the OB truck’s communication system is a Cronus 40x40 matrix consisting of two Cronus frames, which act as one matrix. The Cronus frames are connected via coax cable and share hardware in different locations. Installed into the Cronus frames are five RTS Cronus AIO 8-Port Analog I/O cards as well as five AIO MDR back cards. “The RTS Cronus intercom is a modular, 32-port digital matrix intercom in 2U format capable of holding up to four AIO analogue or RVON-C VoIP cards with eight ports each”, explains Nico Lewis, Senior Sales Manager RTS Intercoms. “In fact, by utilizing a DSP architecture, up to four Cronus frames to be combined to create a matrix capable of supporting up to 128 users.”

Connected to the matrix are seven KP-12 keypanels equipped with MCP gooseneck microphones. All keys of the keypanels are assignable for all functions such as Point-to-Point, IFB, ISO, PL, SL, Relay, GPI and fully programmable via the front panel shaft encoder. Rounding off the installation are nine lightweight single-sided PH-88R5 headsets.

“It was very important for us to copy all the good things of the OBV 5 into the new truck”, says de Pijper, “and one of the essential parts was the intercom system.” As such, Facility House not only continues to enjoy the high reliability and technical support it has come to expect from RTS, states de Pijper: “Our customers and technicians also benefit from the easy-to-use and flexible solution as from details such as lever keys with individual talk/listen functions on each key of the keypanels. Not having to familiarize oneself with the system before use saves us time and money.”
