EVS Announces IPDirector Integrates with Avid iNews NRCs

EVS today announced that it continues to expand its production workflow capabilities with a new integration between its content production management system, IPDirector, and the Avid® iNEWS® newsroom system. Full communication between these systems is made possible through MOS protocol support and the introduction of a new ActiveX browser for iNEWS clients. EVS will demonsrate this integration during the NAB show, at the EVS stand in the Central Hall (C9508).

New integrated workflow

With the speed and reliability of EVS Instant Tapeless Technology and the efficient control of newsroom operations with iNEWS, this new integrated workflow offers enhanced capabilities to newscasters.

Any running order managed from the iNEWS client interface is kept up to date on the IPDirector control panel, ensuring full control over the rundown of playlists in IPDirector. With EVS’ new ActiveX plug-in database browser, which is integrated with the iNEWS client, Avid operators can access any EVS clip and associated metadata referenced in the IPDirector database and add with a simple drag and drop to the rundown list. The ActiveX browser allows the user to do search on any IPDirector database field.

iNEWS rundowns create and update IPDirector playlists in real-time with associated metadata (name, duration, time code as well as iNEWS specific data) using MOS Protocol. Clips in the iNEWS rundown, which are not already available in hi-res on the EVS server, are referenced as a virtual element in the EVS ActiveX interface. Once the content is online on the server, the clip status is instantly visible in the iNEWS rundown.

For enhanced security, the workflow can be configured in full redundancy with an additional production server and IPDirector system for backup.

iNEWS provides complete control of newsroom operations

“As part of our commitment to increase the benefits of using EVS technology for news productions, the integration with Avid and its newsroom computer system was a must”, said Pierre L’Hoest, Chief Executive Officer of EVS. “Although Xedio, our modular production system for news, is already MOS compliant, the recent support of this standard protocol by IPDirector represents another significant step for EVS and its strategy to further integrate with third-party systems.”

iNEWS provides complete control of newsroom operations. News teams can operate at peak levels, as they create content, manage news rundowns and swiftly control the timing and accuracy of news broadcasts from their desktops.

EVS IPDirector is an integrated suite of video production management applications that provides total control of the production via EVS’ production servers as well as near-line storage. In addition to creating clips and highlights, IPDirector allows users to ingest, log, manage, browse, edit and playout any video or audio content instantly.

EVS will present the integration between EVS IPDirector and iNEWS as well as its latest solutions to NAB visitors at the EVS booth—C9508—from April 12-15, 2010.
