Bandit Lites Illuminates Virtual Webcast for Presentation Resource Group Event

Bandit Lites recently wrapped production on an event with Austin Yarnton and the Presentation Resource Group, illuminating a corporate meeting that had been slated for a ballroom at the Omni Hotel in Nashville. Due to the outbreak of COVID-19, the team pivoted to a virtual webcast conference, sharing their client’s message over three days.

This year’s theme for Technology Marketing Toolkit was ‘Fight Club’ and Austin provided a rundown of moments for the show that would require sequences.

“This is the second year we have worked with Austin,” said Bandit Lites Client Representative Shawn Lear. “Chris Noll worked the event as the lighting director, as Austin said he couldn’t do the show without Chris.”

With Noll having worked on previous year’s events, he and the video director worked together on most creative decisions, paying special attention to how the lighting was portrayed over a screen rather than in person.

“We would look at elements on camera from cue to cue and tweak as needed to make all the transitions as clean as possible,” Noll said.

Bandit Lites provided a lighting system comprised of LED fixtures including Elation Color Chorus 72s, Elation SixPar 200s, Elation SixPar 100s and Elation Smarty Hybrids.

The Elation Color Chorus 72s supplied the primary up light on a chain link fence that served as the rear backdrop.

“Due to the fixtures having cell control, it allowed me to ripple colors for transitions or to "shimmer" the backdrop for big moments of the broadcast,” said Noll.

Elation Sixpar 200s provided secondary color on the fence backdrop and to fill the giveaway vehicle that was parked up stage center. They also threw slashes of color across the base of the Color Chorus 72s while the others focused on the car provided a lower angle glow for the camera shots from the sides and rear.

Towers outfitted with Elation Smarty Hybrids were located alongside the stage and offered both a side fill light as well as beams for larger moments.

“Due to the house rig being conventional fixtures, they also were the go-to for oddball shots that we needed to throw additional light onto,” Noll explained.

Even with the restrictions from the COVID-19 outbreak, Bandit’s preparedness meant that load in went smoothly and safely. The team limited the number of people in the room at a time and video loaded in the day before.

“This meeting turned out to be a big success for everyone involved on the production side,” finished Lear. “I also want to give a big thanks to Project Manager, Matt King, for a last-minute preparation of the lighting and managing the crew.”
