Aperi to demonstrate real-word integrated native-IP live production at NAB2017

Demos will replicate several worldwide deployments and show third-party interoperability

After the company’s official launch at the 2016 NAB Show, Aperi, the pioneer of live IP Media Function Virtualization, will demonstrate its latest technology advancements, new app functionality and third-party integration. The main demo area on booth SU11413 will show two replications of recent customer deployments.

“The NAB Show offers a platform for us to share with visitors the importance of adopting virtualized production workflows and what’s possible with the latest native IP advancements,” said Joop Janssen, Aperi’s CEO. “Our demonstrations at this year’s NAB show will show content producers and their service providers how they can benefit from a truly IP-based infrastructure with instant re-programmable microservices or apps as opposed to an IP-bolstered SDI workflow.”

Customer deployments

As part of its booth demonstration space, which is twice the size last year’s, Aperi will replicate two customer deployments.

The first is a live sports remote production network which demonstrates a real-world project deployment to be announced at the show. Standards-based encapsulated IP feeds from multiple sports venues are locally inspected, filtered and their network addresses translated before being transported to a centralized production hub. Compression codecs and other real-time media processing functions can be switched on or off instantly depending on the programming preferences of the sports broadcaster using the network.

Within this demonstration, show attendees will be able to see Aperi’s full integration with Vidi’s Orchestration and NMS system. This provisions media return channels and secures bi-directional IP-tunneling and diverse path ‘hitless’ protection for data. It also lets operators control the transport of signals like talkback/intercom, CCU camera control and is essential for any live remote production deployment.

The second of its customer installation replications will be a demonstration of protected, secure IP switching facilities. Within this workflow, standards-based IP flows or legacy SDI/ASI signals are fed into the ingress ports of a core IP switch via media gateway, including IP Firewall and processing stages. SDN-controlled switching takes place before signals are handed off to either IP or SDI/ASI domains.

The integration with Skyline’s Dataminer orchestration, control and monitoring system will be fully demonstrated, showing the clear benefits of IP switching functionality.

Advanced technology functionality

Alongside these demonstrations, Aperi will also showcase several new industry partner integrations, including interoperability with the Atos BNCS control system. It will also show a number of new functions and software applications from within the company’s growing community of app developers, bringing even more functionality to the Aperi platform.

Its latest virtualization software stack (V-stack) will be on display, with enhancements that help users manage containerized processing and network software applications on its FPGA-accelerated A1105 platform.

New app developer partnerships provide new functionality including 4K and HD compression adhering to TICO standards, network address translation (NAT) and IP firewalls, a H.264 encoder and decoder and support of SMPTE 2110.

Aperi will also demonstrate new application releases for JPEG 2000, SMPTE 2022-1, -2 and -7 (ASI), uncompressed SMPTE 2022-5, -6 and -7, and a family of test and measurements apps including a packet generator and analyzer.

“Our growing community of app developers is one of our strongest assets at Aperi. We want to build an ecosystem where app-centric production infrastructures become the norm within content creation,” added Janssen. “An open, non-proprietary workflow is the future of live production, which is why developing this open development community is so important and delivers on the speed and scale of innovation that customers need.”
