“As AI transforms video production, professionals are turning to Adobe's creative ecosystem—from Firefly to Premiere to After Effects—to design, craft, and scale their stories on any screen,” said Ely Greenfield, chief technology officer and senior vice president, Digital Media, Adobe. “Runway's generative video innovation, combined with Adobe's proven professional workflows, will help creatives and brands expand their creative potential and meet the growing demands of modern content and media production.”
“We develop AI tools that redefine creativity, storytelling, and entertainment, with Gen-4.5 as the latest example,” said Cristóbal Valenzuela, co-founder and CEO of Runway. “This partnership allows us to make our latest generative video technology available to more storytellers within Adobe's creative tools, which are already considered the industry standard for creatives worldwide.”

Shaping the future of professional generative video and workflows
Runway has named Adobe its preferred API creative partner, enabling Adobe to provide its customers with early access to Runway's latest models. When Runway releases new models, Firefly customers will be the first to access them through Adobe's creative workflows.
Starting now, Adobe Firefly customers will be among the first to try Runway's new Gen 4.5 model before its broad release. Gen 4.5's motion quality, fast response, and visual fidelity enable dynamic, controllable actions with high temporal consistency across a variety of generation modes. Creatives can use it to stage complex scenes with multiple elements, featuring precise compositions, realistic physics, and expressive characters whose gestures and facial expressions remain consistent from shot to shot. With Gen-4.5, creatives can generate videos from text prompts, experiment with different visual directions, pacing, and movements, and then seamlessly switch to Firefly Video Editor to assemble the generated clips into polished, shareable videos. Creative professionals can transfer their generations to Adobe Premiere, After Effects, and other Creative Cloud applications for further editing and refinement.

As part of this partnership, Adobe and Runway are working together to make generative video an essential and reliable part of creative AI workflows for creatives and brands. The companies will work directly with independent filmmakers, major studios, leading agencies, streaming platforms, Fortune 500 brands, and global enterprises to jointly develop new video capabilities and integrate them directly into the Adobe tools that industry professionals already trust for their most important projects.
A creator-first approach to AI: Industry-leading choice and flexibility in models and tools
Creators have made it clear that they don't want to rely on a single generative AI model — they want different models for different styles, stories, and workflows. Adobe Firefly is designed as an all-in-one studio for creative AI, where creators can choose the models best suited to each project. These can be combined with Adobe's industry-standard tools for video, audio, image editing, and design. In Firefly, creatives can work with Adobe's commercially secure Firefly models, a growing ecosystem of industry-leading partner models from Runway and other companies, including Black Forest Labs, ElevenLabs, Google, Luma AI, OpenAI, and Topaz Labs – as well as Firefly Custom Models to generate their own unique style.

Adobe takes the most creator-friendly approach to AI in the industry, believing that AI is a tool for human creativity and cannot replace it. Regardless of which model creatives use in the Firefly app, the content is not used to train generative AI models.
