Like everyone in Kazakhstan, the staff of Kazakhstan TV are immensely proud that the 7th Asian Winter Games are being staged on their soil. “It is not an extra pressure,” explained Technical Director Raushan Akpenova. “It is an honour for us as we know that the whole of the nation is watching our chan­nel’s coverage.”

As two of the three leading broadcasters in Korea, KBS and MBC are bringing the 7th Asian Winter Games to their audience in a true team effort. Sharing the broadcasting rights, the two broadcasters have split the individual disciplines between their respective channels in order to maximise the viewing experience for their market.

After such a long build up to an event so important for the nation of Kazakhstan, the ap­proach to the finish line is a time for reflection and evaluation. With all eyes on South Africa for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, SABC (The South African Broadcasting Corporation) set up the hub for its World Cup broadcast studio in Exhibition 1 at the Sandton Convention Centre, central Johannesburg. All the match coverage and several regular programmes are being transmitted from the studio for the duration of the tournament.
