Arqiva, the communications infrastructure and media services company, has announced that it has closed a multi-year agreement with Traffic Sports International to support global distribution of its seven international soccer leagues. Via Arqiva, the television rights holder to Latin America’s key soccer tournaments will reach TV households throughout the Americas, Europe, Asia and the Middle East beginning with the August 4th transmission of the first Copa Sudamericana soccer match.

SIS LIVE, one of Europe’s largest outside broadcast (OB) and uplink supplier, has upgraded the technical facilities for BBC Sport’s coverage of Formula 1 motor racing. The UK-based company has designed and built a brand new HD-ready flyaway unit and OB truck to capture BBC Sport’s race-weekend footage for BBC One, BBC Red Button and BBC online. The £2 million system was first used at the Belgian Grand Prix at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit, 27th-29th August, and is heading next to Monza, Italy, for the Grand Premio Santander d’Italia, 10th-12th September.

Marina Bay, in the heart of Singapore, was the location for the opening and closing ceremonies of the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games, which took place from the 14th to the 26th of August. Creative director Ivan Heng, show producer Vernon Teo, and the artistic team that included lighting designer Koert Vermeulen of ACT Lighting Design, presented the ceremonies, which took place on the world’s largest floating platform stage with the Singapore skyline as the backdrop. Jacques Rogge, President of the IOC, said, “It was a combination of pure emotion and technical perfection in a unique setting.”

SVG Honors HBS, OBS at Fifth Annual IBC Sport Reception

On Saturday night 11th September, SVG hosted more than 200 sports industry professionals at its annual IBC Sport Reception in Amsterdam to salute the 2010 achievements of Olympic Broadcasting Services (OBS) and Host Broadcast Services (HBS). These two companies, respectively, were directly responsible for two groundbreaking 2010 productions, the Vancouver Winter Olympics and the FIFA World Cup. Manolo Romero, CEO of OBS, was on hand to accept the award for the Olympic production, while Francis Tellier, CEO of HBS, accepted the award for the World Cup broadcast.
