Approximately 25 tonnes of equipment and some 133 people have been brought to South Africa by SRG for the 2010 FIFA World Cup™. They have been split almost evenly between two bases of opera­tion: the IBC and the SRG Me­dia Centre at Vanderbijlpark, which was next to the Swiss team base at Emerald Resort before the team’s departure on 28 June following their exit at the end of the group stages.

As the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ reaches its latter stages attention naturally begins to turn to Brazil’s hosting of the event in 2014, and for broadcasters in the host country that should make life a lot easier, right? “Well, in terms of the logistics we could think it will be easier but it will not be because Brazil is such a huge country,” explained TV Globo’s Executive Producer Fernanda Conte. “We will be able to have more people involved, not that we don’t have a big crew here, and, naturally, it is an advantage to be in our home country and speaking our own language.”

Asturmedia, host broadcaster of European Canoeing Championship Trasona 2010

This weekend saw the European Canoeing Championship take place on the Trasona reservoir, in Corvera (Asturias). Asturmedia was appointed by the Spanish Canoeing Federation to be the host broadcaster for the event. Among the TV channels from more than 60 countries who broadcast the event were: Eurosport, Eurosport HD, Sport 1 (Lithuania), TPA, TPA HD, ARD, Hungarian TV, etc.

Zigzagging across South Africa – reports and live broadcasts from the top locations of the World Cup

On 4th June the broadcast transmission specialist Josef Rade and his production team, consisting of a cutter and a cameraman, picked up their SNG at the port of Durban. They made a few minor changes to the production technology in the SNG and also had to configure the parts that were flown out from Germany at the last minute. Then finally it was off to the North-East of South Africa, where the SNG North team underwent its final test in Johannesburg on 7th June and was given the all clear for “unrestricted transmission readiness”.
