ZDF Upgrades to Snell Kahuna 360 Multi-format Switchers and Snell Sirius 840 Router 

Snell announced that Zweites Deutsches Fernsehen (ZDF), Germany's national public television broadcaster, has deployed two Snell Kahuna 360 multi-format production switchers and a Snell Sirius 840 router as part of a technology upgrade for its two production studios in Düsseldorf and Mainz, Germany. The new Snell systems join 13 Snell Kahuna switchers that are in use in both outside broadcast and live studio environments, including Germany's leading news magazine program, "heute-journal."

ZDF Puts New OB Truck MP-6 with VSM Control System Into Operation

Germany's ZDF television channel is using the VSM control system manufactured by L-S-B Broadcast Technologies GmbH in the new Mobile Production facility MP-6. In collaboration with the Mainz-based system integrator BFE Studio and Media Systems, L-S-B project engineers commissioned the OB truck at the end of January in Lerchenberg. The Virtual Studio Manager (VSM) takes over the control, management and supervision of the video, audio, KVM, remote and timecode routers in the OB truck. The transfer of signal names to multiviewers, monitors, video and audio consoles in the MP-6 is also carried out by the higher-level control system.

ZDF and ARD modernise “Mobile Produktions Einheit” (MPE) and switch to full IP functionality

Having already successfully assisted clients in converting large studio and production buildings to an IP infrastructure, LOGIC media solutions was in charge of another IP migration process in the broadcast industry that is currently receiving particular attention. However, this time, it is a mobile and flexible flight case infrastructure for the “Mobile Produktions Einheit” (MPE) (Mobile Production Unit). The technology used jointly by German broadcasters ZDF and ARD has been upgraded to full IP functionality in essential core components. The mobile production unit comprises a wide variety of customised components to suit the individual purpose and event. It is used jointly by ZDF and ARD for events which, due to their size and complexity, cannot be handled with conventional production means (OB vans, on-site studio), e.g. European and World Cup football matches or summer and winter Olympic Games.
