3D Production: FIFA World Cup™ 2010

In December 2009, FIFA and Sony announced plans for 3D coverage of 25 FIFA World Cup matches. Integral in the selection and adoption of the technologies were Peter Angell, HBS director of production & programming, who served as FIFA special 3D project leader, and Duncan Humphreys, 3D consultant to HBS for the World Cup and partner in UK-based 3D production company Can Communicate. The aim was to deliver to TV-viewing soccer fans a new experience of their sports and to cheer even more about the World Cup. The tournament should help to kick off what TV makers, networks – and advertisers – hope to become a new dimension in home sports viewing and sports viewing in cinemas.

3D Road Show at nobeo Studio 4

More than 100 visitors attended the 3D Road Show organised by Wellen+Nöthen in nobeo’s Studio 4 on June 11th, 2010. At this event Quantel, in conjunction with Sony and Vizrt, demonstrated a complete stereo 3D workflow for production,  post production and transmission. It was the first time the German Film and TV industry could have "Hands On 3D" from Ingest to editing and playout. In addition to Cologne the roadshow also visited Berlin and Munich.

The O2 3D Rugby broadcast produced by Inition has won the Marketing Agencies Association award for Best Communication Campaign Featuring Experiential. Inition worked with O2, Archibald Ingall Stretton and SIS Live to shoot the matches for the UK ­wide 3D cinema broadcast of England’s home games.

3D Sound Reinforcement via NEXUS and CRESCENDO-T by Stage Tec in the Erlangen Theatre

The Erlangen Theatre has comprehensively modernised its audio technology. CRESCENDO-T, a 32-fader mixing console from Berlin-based Stage Tec, was installed in an existing NEXUS network. The NEXUS components of this network, some of which are 14 years old, were inspected and renewed as needed, and a Base Device and router were added. As part of this revamp, an interesting audio installation was set up to enable the theatre to use two PA systems in parallel: the classic and a 3D audio system.
