When an analogue stalwart front-of-house engineer who’s known to eschew digital consoles finally finds one that meets his standards it’s a milestone. Flogging Molly is named for their inauspicious start playing Molly Malone’s Pub in Los Angeles Monday nights in the Nineties. The seven-piece Irish/American, punk/folk ensemble is a rock band with traditional Irish instruments, fronted by Dave King on acoustic guitar and Bridget Regan on fiddle, with electric guitar, bass drums, accordion and banjo.

When the company’s owner mandates the use of its latest technology for its first major tour, you can be sure everyone involved, knowing his perfectionist approach, gives it their full attention and then some. Peter Gabriel’s Back to Front tour made full use of the new SSL Live consoles supplied by Britannia Row Productions for the first part of the tour in Sept/Oct 2013, and will continue to demand perfection from the console when the tour resumes in April 2014. Happily, the hard work paid off and artists, engineers and SSL’s design team were all thrilled with the results – as were audiences across Europe.

The engineering team for Jason Aldean’s Burn It Down tour is bringing the artist’s popular brand of country rock to the next sonic level with an SSL Live console for both FOH and monitoring. A triple platinum artist who has released such albums as My Kinda Party, Relentless and Wide Open, Aldean has been wowing fans for years, packing in tens of thousands of enthusiastic attendees at each of his shows. SSL LIVE for Oprah's "The Life You Want" Weekend 2014
Oprah Winfrey has taken ‘The Life You Want Weekend’, a high-profile two-night self-help show on the road for eight weekends this fall. Along for the ride is CTS Audio, who is providing sound for the tour including a SSL Live. L500 console at the mix position, operated by CTS veteran front of house engineer Jon Schwarz.

SSL Live Gives Clarity to Santana's Monitors
Mixing multiple wedges and in-ear mixes for a large band with a dynamic musical set requires a flexible console that can quickly be operated manually. For this reason, an SSL Live console is on the road with iconic Latin rocker Carlos Santana, whose perennial monitor engineer, Brian Montgomery, is using it to mix both stereo wedges for Carlos and IEMs for his band. Following last winter’s residency at Mandalay Bay’s House of Blues (HoB), Santana has been globetrotting, making stops at the Dubai Jazz Festival, Johannesburg’s FNB Stadium, Cape Town’s Grand Arena and the New Orleans Jazz Festival as part of its Corazon tour. Carlos and his crew will then join Rod Stewart for The Voice, The Guitar, The Songs tour this spring and summer.

Following The Killers’ wildly successful 2013 Battle Born world tour, performing in 50 countries and headlining arenas on six continents – including a sold-out Wembley Stadium show for which they wrote The Wembley Song – the Las Vegas-based phenomenon is back on the road this summer in support of their Direct Hits greatest hits compilation. With appearances at North American and U.K. music festivals, the band’s FOH engineer, Kenny Kaiser, is delivering their chart toppers with help from the new SSL Live console.

Mexico’s beloved pop icon Juan Gabriel is touring the U.S. with an SSL Live, the first-ever dedicated live sound console from Solid State Logic. One of Mexico’s most successful vocalists, Gabriel is a Billboard Latin Music Hall of Fame inductee and six-time Grammy nominee who has sold over 30 million albums and performed throughout the world. When his Volver 2014 tour prepared for its U.S. leg, front-of-house engineer Rodrigo López was excited to mix on SSL’s latest innovation.

SSL LIVE Joins the 2014 World of Music, Arts and Dance Festival
Celebrating its 34th year, World of Music, Arts and Dance (WOMAD) is an annual eclectic world-music festival of “artists whom we might not get to hear anywhere else” and the largest and most prestigious event of its kind. As with WOMADs of the past, Britannia Row Productions Ltd. once again provided sound services for the festival. But this year had a new team member – SSL Live consoles at FOH for two stages: the main Open Air Stage and at WOMAD’s new Society of Sound marquee.

SSL Live on Tour with Michael McDonald
Blue-eyed soul singer Michael McDonald joins 1980s super-group Toto this summer for a North American co-bill that stops at The Greek in Los Angeles and The Fox in Atlanta. McDonald’s front-of-house engineer Curtis Flatt was first introduced to Spectrum Sound of Nashville while in college and went to work for the company in 1986. Through the long association, Flatt’s career has spanned the best consoles and musicians of the last three decades, including Wynona Judd and the Judds, Donny Osmond and Michael W. Smith. He also filled in for a short time for Robert Collins on Eric Clapton. Today, he can be found at McDonald’s helm with an SSL Live console.
