Sound Devices, experts in production sound and video products for field production, will host a PIX seminar at the Los Angeles Film School’s LAFS Theater on Saturday, February 4 from 10 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.  The presentation highlights Sound Devices’ new line of portable production video recorders, PIX 220 and PIX 240, and will explore the benefits of using an external recorder to acquire the highest quality picture and sound in the field.

JVC Professional Europe Ltd. today announced the GY-HMQ10, the world’s first handheld 4K camcorder, which captures, records and plays video images at four times the resolution of high definition television. Powered by JVC’s Falconbrid large-scale integration (LSI) chip for high-speed signal processing and a 1/2-inch CMOS imager with 8.3 million active pixels, it delivers real-time 3840x2160 footage at 24p and 50p.

After the major success of X-Factor 2010, the German version of the popular talent show has just completed its second season, which ran between 30th August and 6th December.

WTS Broadcast has supplied independent broadcaster IQRA TV with the TVUPack, a 3G/4G wireless mobile uplink solution from TVU Networks. The broadcaster purchased the two TVUPack transmitters to broadcast live on-site coverage of the John O’Groats to Lands End bike-ride, UK-wide cycling action which was broadcast throughout the UK and Europe on IQRA TV’s Sky channel and Internet stream.

Occupying an eight hectare site, the magnificent new Royal Opera House Muscat (ROHM), built at the behest of Sultan Qaboos Bin Said, was officially opened in October. The complex, consisting of a concert theatre, auditorium, formal landscaped gardens, cultural market with retail outlets and luxury restaurants, is an arts centre for musical, theatrical and operatic productions, and has been designed to reflect contemporary Omani architecture.

This one-day event on Wednesday, Feb. 15, will feature six different sessions examining today's cloud-based technologies. Scheduled for 12 p.m., the Chyron presentation will address today's popular cloud-based technologies in use across the broadcast and post-production communities. Specifically, the session will examine how today's cloud-based graphics creation platforms can be integrated with leading editing and publishing programs — such as Apple® Final Cut Pro®, Adobe® Premiere® Pro, Adobe Photoshop®, and ENPS publishing software — to achieve more efficient broadcast productions.

Visitors to The Production Show (TPS) 2012 are in for a treat, with a line-up of free seminars that is designed to inspire, inform and educate content production professionals. The event, which runs alongside Broadcast Video Expo 2012 at Earls Court, 14-16 February 2012, is supported by many leading production industry bodies including BAFTA and Directors UK.

The GTC will this year celebrate its 40th anniversary in the same city and the same month as its foundation. In May 1972, the inaugural meeting of what would become the Guild of Television Cameramen was held at the Birmingham studios of Associated Television.
