Once again, Riedel Communications supplied a comprehensive signal transport and communications backbone for the spectacular New Year’s Eve Hogmanay celebration in Edinburgh, Scotland on Dec. 31. Riedel’s MediorNet provided real-time transport, processing, and routing for all video and audio signals and also enabled critical IP-based systems such as CCTV, Internet access, and weather monitoring. Riedel’s Artist digital matrix intercom system and Bolero wireless intercom were tightly integrated with MediorNet to ensure clear and reliable communications for the production crew across five stages.

The tour, initially focused on Germany, has already been extended several times and is now enthusing countless fans in other European countries. In this impressive audiovisual experience, the world-famous themes of the German film composer were arranged for orchestra for the first time. For the authorized tour, the artist has made the entire music selection and is supervising the artistic development. The production is being conducted by Gavin Greenaway, a long-time companion of Hans Zimmer.

This marks the start of its journey to Japan where, in only 134 days, the Games of the XXXII Olympiad will begin. As a symbol of peace and hope, the Olympic Flame will now travel on towards Tokyo, conveying the Olympic Values.

Brompton delivers visually stunning show at Music for the Marsden
In early March some of the world's greatest artists came together to put on a benefit concert at London’s The O2 Arena to raise vital funds for The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity. Sir Tom Jones, Eric Clapton, Bonnie Tyler and Van Morrison were amongst a formidable line up that took to the stage performing their greatest hits, raising close to one million pounds for The Royal Marsden’s brand new treatment and research facility; the Oak Cancer Centre in Sutton, Surrey. To complement the star-studded benefit, state-of-the-art video rental company Universal Pixels (UP) deployed Brompton Technology’s LED processing power to provide a visually stunning show.
R&S SpycerNode Delivers Performance, Security for New World Symphony 4K-UHD Storage
The New World Symphony (NWS), a renowned educational institution training the next generation of orchestra and ensemble musicians, has deployed the Rohde & Schwarz (R&S) SpycerNode storage solution as part of a nearly $8.5 million upgrade to transition its video production, distribution and presentation technology to 4K Ultra-HD.
NWS has installed a 1.4 Petabyte (PB) R&S SpycerNode to record and archive 4K Ultra-HD program feeds and ISO camera shots of orchestral performances. The solution also stores productions of NWS rental clients.

CAPTURING LYNX CATS IN CONSERVATION
‘Snow Cats & Me’, filmed for BBC 2, is the follow-up to a series of programmes made by Gordon Buchanan, which follows the lives of lynx cats in conservation. The initial 2011 documentary ‘Bear Family & Me’ followed black bears in Minnesota and was produced by Jonny Young and Ted Oakes. Its success subsequently spawned a whole series of ‘And Me’ programmes to include the lives of Polar Bears, Elephants and Grizzly Cubs.

Annual 4K 4Charity Run at NAB Show Goes Virtual
Organizers of the 4K 4Charity Fun Run series announced today that the running and walking event hosted in collaboration with the National Association of Broadcasters’ (NAB) Show is going virtual for 2020. The 4K 4Charity series leverages fun, healthy activities to help raise funds for non-profits focused on increasing diversity and inclusion in the technology and media industries, and celebrates advancements in video technology, such as Ultra High Definition (UHD) 4K and 8K video. This year it will also help to raise funds for those most impacted by COVID-19. Registration is open, and donations may be made until June 1, 2020 at 4K4Charity.com/nab.
