A nexus of performance art, Edinburgh International Festival (EIF) provides a sustaining alternative to the relentless humour of the Fringe. Dance, drama, music, musical drama, and yes, even a little humour, is the breadth of what's available. With such variety, and a furious turn over where shows move in and out on an almost daily basis, it's an exhausting month for the stage crews and technicians.

TVT, the leading independent media services and post-production house, has published a report outlining the importance of preserving the archive in the new digital age. The paper, entitled “The Value of History: Archiving in a Digital Age”, details the challenges archivists face as medias degrade and demands for easier access increase.

Calrec Audio announced today that it supplied the audio console that handled surround-sound routing for a full-scale, live-to-air production of Mozart's opera "The Abduction From the Seraglio" in two hangars at Salzburg Airport — an event that the host broadcaster called "Austria's most complex, prestigious, and important audio event in 2013." German outside broadcast (OB) company TVN Group along with cooperative partner Euro TV were responsible for the live broadcast during the 2013 Salzburg Festival. TVN installed an Artemis Beam console in a separate on-site audio container to handle the 5.1 music mix for the production and Calrec Hydra I/O boxes to feed the console.

Der Ring des Nibelungen (The Ring of the Nibelung) is not only composer Richard Wagner’s most celebrated work – it is also one of the cornerstone works of classical music. Comprising four epic ‘music dramas’ (Das Rheingold, Die Walküre, Siegfried and Götterdämmerung) with a total running time of 16 hours, Der Ring… is certainly not for the faint-hearted, although it is possible to encounter Wagner fans who have seen the entire cycle not just once or twice – but as many as eight or ten times.
