In recent years, more and more UGC has found its way into news programming, and for good reason. Multiple good reasons, in fact. And the growth in UGC we’ve seen thus far is nothing. According to a new Sony and IHS Markit report, the number of citizen journalists out there will increase by 145% each year to 2025, when UGC will account for just under 20% of all online content – rising from just under 10% this year. So, we now have two questions to address: should news organisations take advantage of the ever-growing mountain of UGC out there, and how?

Qatar’s remarkable new National Museum launched in spectacular style at the end of March, offering visitors an immersive and experiential journey through the country’s rich history, current identity and aspirations for the future. London’s iconic Royal Albert Hall has completed the biggest improvement to sound in its auditorium since the installation of the iconic acoustic ‘mushrooms’ 50 years ago. Costing over £2 million, the project took 693 days of labour, 15,291m of cable, and 465 individual speakers, in the world’s largest loudspeaker install in a single room.

The work is designed to offer a snapshot of what it’s like to experience the highs and crushing lows of bipolar II, what Mig describes as being “like the lights going out in your head”.

The Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra is the National Orchestra of Sweden. Each year, about 100 concerts are held in the Gothenburg Concert Hall at Götaplatsen. The Orchestra has the goal of becoming one of the foremost orchestras in the world by 2020.The Orchestra’s television channel GSOplay broadcasts concerts live and on demand in Full HD. The channel’s goal is to offer classical music enthusiasts around the world the opportunity to experience the world of the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra. Through an extensive series of interviews and behind the scenes material, GSOplay’s audience has the opportunity to get to know conductors, soloists, and the orchestra in a unique and intimate way.

One of the Hong Kong Science Museum’s latest exhibitions - a complex projection interpretation of the Landscape Map of the Silk Road - made good use of AV Stumpfl’s PIXERA two media servers to achieve the flexibility and power necessary for such a demanding project. The install was designed, supplied and system integrated by Cosmo Pro AV, and ran from 7 December 2018 and until 20 February 2019.

El Lugar de Su Presencia (The Place of His Presence) is a neo-charismatic Christian denominational church in Bogota, Colombia, currently headquartered on two sites in the Castellana district of the buzzing capital city. These two venues are on opposite sides of the same road. The first arena was built in 2005 with a capacity of 3000, and in 2017 the new building was constructed to contain an overflow congregation of up to 1500 people.

For this time around the sun we designed and built a 4k mobile unit. This was a very important maiden voyage and our team rose to the occasion. Until now, this show had been produced in a full broadcast truck. Being able to keep quality the same but using the tools that best fit the job was important to us. 

The Shed’s executive team joined elected officials and artists to celebrate the opening of New York’s new arts center during a dedication ceremony just days before the space opened to the public on April 5. Located on West 30^th Street between 10^th and 11^th Avenue, The Shed is commissioning and presenting new work from artists working in all genres, including Steve McQueen, Steve Reich, Trisha Donnelly, Anne Carson, Ben Whishaw, Renée Fleming and Björk, among others.

At the beginning of May, a two-year project came to be realised for inspirational Guildford School of Acting lighting tutor Michelle (Mig) Burgess when her unique design installation Blackout was revealed to the industry. Harnessing the collective powers of light, sound and video in the hope of affecting genuine changes in an approach to mental health, Mig set about on her quest over two years ago.

Olympic House, the new headquarters of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), has received three of the most rigorous sustainable building certifications. It has therefore become one of the most sustainable buildings in the world.  One of the three certifications is LEED Platinum, the highest certification level of the international LEED green building programme. According to the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), the organisation that developed LEED, Olympic House has received the most points (93) of any LEED v4-certified new construction project to date.
