The beautiful and ancient city of Viborg in central Jutland is one of the oldest in Denmark dating back to the 8th century Viking settlements and has always had a great tradition for meetings and commercial and social interactions. Each year in June the streets, squares and parks become energised with “Snapsting”, a 10 day annual festival, organised by the city to bring entertainment, arts, culture, sports, music and fun to its community!

Robe Illuminates Mountains for Parrtjima Festival of Light
Festivals have fast become an elusive dream resembling gold dust in the Covid era – a much-missed environment for enjoying and sharing culture, ideas and social activities ... so the 2020 Parrtjima Festival of Light at Alice Springs in Australia’s Northern Territory provided a rare reminder of the community, camaraderie, magic and imagination evoked by lighting art. Moved from its original April slot to September, the 10-day event organised by the Northern Territories Major Event Company (NTMEC), and produced and curated by AGB, went ahead due to the state’s highly successful Covid-19 management strategy.

This year the additional resonance of the date made it 30 years since the ‘Velvet Revolution’ which saw the peaceful transfer of power (in then Czechoslovakia) from a one-party Communist system to a modern parliamentary democracy.
To mark this, various festival works touched on the themes of freedom of expression, change, transformation and evolution.

“My Light Shines On” was a stunning large-scale light art installation designed by Kate Bonney and Simon Hayes from Lightworks, commissioned by the world’s leading performing arts festival, Edinburgh International Festival, to mark what would have been the opening weekend of Edinburgh’s 2020 Festival Season. Celebrating the spirit, energy, vibe and imagination of the Festival – with a multi-disciplinary programme and was cancelled for the first time in seven decades due to the coronavirus pandemic – fourteen separate lighting installations around the city highlighted some of the most famous venues of Edinburgh’s festivals in August.

Robe Lights Pula Arena Red for #WeMakeEvents Campaign
This was in solidarity with the #RedAlertRESTART action in the USA which saw over 2000 buildings lit in red all over North America on the same date, to highlight the critical stage of the live events and entertainment industry globally during the Coronavirus pandemic and the need for support and roadmap to re-starting. Pula’s world-famous arena is the only remaining Roman amphitheatre in the world to have four side towers and all three Roman architectural orders – Doric, Ionic and Corinthian – intact! It was constructed between 27 BCE and 68AD, is among the largest six surviving Roman arenas worldwide and is also the best-preserved ancient monument in Croatia.

The Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) staged the London premiere of Scuttlers in its city centre GBS Theatre, an intense drama about the struggles and power politics of 19th century Manchester street gangs set against a steaming, grinding industrial revolution backdrop bringing massive social change and great uncertainty. The work was written by Rona Munro in response to the UK’s unsettling spate of urban riots in 2011.

The event focuses on the intersection between electronic music and live visuals and presents a selection of invigorating collaborations, special projects and the opportunity for artists working in all areas of music and visual arts to imaginer works that can be enjoyed and appreciated by all.
Robe Makes Its Presence Felt
El Lugar de Su Presencia (The Place of His Presence) is a neo-charismatic Christian denominational church in Bogota, Colombia, currently headquartered on two sites in the Castellana district of the buzzing capital city. These two venues are on opposite sides of the same road. The first arena was built in 2005 with a capacity of 3000, and in 2017 the new building was constructed to contain an overflow congregation of up to 1500 people.

Those lucky enough to attend the Opening Ceremony (OC) of the 2019 – and 54th – Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (KVIFF) were treated to a gravity-defying vertical dance performance featuring large-format projection and eight aerialists from Jednotka Rychlého Nasazení (Rapid Action Unit) who were creatively directed by brothers Michal Caban & Simon Caban, who are universally known - collectively - as ‘Cabani’.
