A castell is a human tower built traditionally at festivals throughout Catalonia and the region of Valencia. Castells were first documented in 1712 and originated within Valls, Catalonia, near the city of Tarragona. Interest in castells grew in the 1960s and 1970s and in 2010, castells were declared a masterpiece of human heritage by UNESCO. In 2015 a festival hosted 99 groups of castellers, at which the tallest human tower was erected and safely dismantled, having 10 levels with four people in each level.

Solstices Is A Swiss Success For Yamaha

Every 10 years the municipality of Echallens in Switzerland stages Fête du Blé et du Pain (The Festival of Wheat and Bread), a 12 day cultural event which celebrates the traditions and history of the region. This year the centrepiece was Solstices, a spectacular open air musical production, performed by 8,000 volunteers, attracting 40,000 spectators and using five Yamaha digital mixing consoles.

Blackmagic Design Powers a Celtic Celebration

Taking place in the heart of northern France every summer for almost 50 years, the Festival Interceltique attracts crowds of more than three quarters of a million over ten days, and is a huge celebration dedicated to the cultural and musical traditions of the Celtic nations. This year saw Wales as the country of honour, and headlining the closing night was legendary Welsh rock band, the Manic Street Preachers.

AURUS mixes FOH for CCTV event in Beijing

AURUS platinum, the flagship of Berlin-based manufacturer Stage Tec, made its debut as a FOH console in China. At the end of July, a cross-over concert with music by Zhang Hong Guang, one of China's most popular composers, was performed in front of an audience of 18,000 at the Cadillac Arena in Beijing. The AURUS platinum was equipped with 32 faders and integrated into a NEXUS network with six Base Devices and a STAR router. CCTV, China's national state broadcaster, recorded the event, which aired on the CCTV-3 music and entertainment channel. IFTT was the technical service provider.

Full Flood Chooses Claypaky Fixtures for “Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular” on the Fourth of July

It’s a July 4th tradition: the “Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular” at the Edward A. Hatch Memorial Shell on the Esplanade along the banks of the Charles River in Boston.  The celebrated orchestra, under the direction of Conductor Keith Lockhart, is one of the biggest annual outdoor concerts in the world.  This year Michael Berger of LA-based Full Flood, Inc., utilized Claypaky Scenius Unico and Mythos 2 fixtures, supplied by 4Wall, to support the production.  ACT Lighting, Inc. is the exclusive distributor of Claypaky in North America.

The Classic Open Air Festival at the Gendarmenmarkt in Berlin has been a good tradition for 27 years. But making it happen presents a new challenge every year. The video projection and sound installation was commissioned by the York Minster Fund as the culmination of ‘The Northern Lights Dinner’ fundraiser. This was held as part of a four- year campaign to build an ongoing endowment for the protection and restoration of the Minster’s priceless historic glass. This involved illuminating the vault of the nave and famous Great West Window, known as ‘The Heart of Yorkshire’.
