4K Today & Tomorrow

A lot has been written in the industry trade publications regarding 4K in the last few months. Lets take a look at what and where 4K is today: There are essentially two 4K imaging formats today- one was developed for digital cinematography with a 1.86 to 1 aspect ratio, 4096 x 2160 lines and the second, technically referred to as UHDTV with a 16x9 aspect ratio, 3840 x 2160 lines. A majority of today's 4K cameras shoot in the 1.86 to 1 ratio.

During the hit match of Polish football league T-Mobile Ekstraklasa, Legia Warszawa vs Lech Poznan, first time in Poland  ATM used 4K technology to enhance the possibility of content creation. In cooperation with the suppliers 4VISION Poland and TWENTY4SEVEN ATM got a SONY F-55 camera with CA4000 and BP 4000 adaptors, a FUJINON 19-90 Cabrio Lens, and  EVS XT3 sever with Epsio for the replay of super zoom images.

4K Studios Expands to Heart of Hollywood

NanoTech Entertainment announced that it has expanded its 4K Studios with the opening of a second facility in Hollywood California.  The new facilities are located on "The Lot", a famous industry location that has been home of some of the greatest influences in film, including Charlie Chaplin, Mary Pickford, Douglas Fairbanks, and Sam Goldwyn.

Chrosziel’s Aladin broadcast involves technology used in film production. As part of 4K broadcast productions, it also facilitates the integration of necessary telezoom capabilities so that operators receive their demands and returns as usual, as well as allowing focus pulling in production. Sony, host broadcaster HBS, lead contractor Telegenic and Brazilian contractor GloboSat together selected the Aladin broadcast to control the employed cinema zooms. Ruodlieb Neubauer, editor-in-chief of Professional Production spoke with Timm Stemann, who served on site as 4K-Live specialist.

At the 2015 NABShow2015, Mobile TV Group (MTVG), operators of one of the country’s largest fleets of mobile production units, will demonstrate the industry’s first 4K sports mobile unit with 2/3-inch cameras - the 38 FLEX - with FUJINON’s new UA80x9 4K Ultra HD lens on a Grass Valley LDX 81 4K camera. The 53’ expando will be capable of sports and entertainment productions with up to 12 4K cameras.

4K Live Productions at Maracana Stadium

GloboSat’s new TV OB truck is producing three 4K live broadcasts from World Cup matches played in the Maracana stadium, in Rio de Janeiro: The round of 16 match on 28 June, the  Quarter-Final on 4 July and the Final on 13 July. The vehicle, which was completed just in time for this year’s FIFA World Cup, is Brazil’s first 4K OB truck, and is fitted with audio equipment from Lawo and state-of-the-art RAVENNA IP networking technology.
