With NHK, Japan’s national broadcaster, driving towards the delivery of 8K content via satellite by the end of next year, it’s no surprise that the use of IP networking technologies is of interest. But the interest across Japan in IP extends beyond meeting the needs of 8K as it is seen as a way to make operations more flexible and cost effective.

Trickbox TV, the video production and broadcast services provider, continues to invest in 4K equipment for OB projects and studio work at Tower Bridge TV Studios. The latest purchase includes a Blackmagic URSA 4K camera, which is scheduled for a July delivery, and a GB Labs LTO archive system which will significantly increase Trickbox’s storage capacity in preparation for more 4K content.

Between 30th November and 2nd December, the Queen Elizabeth Hall on London's Southbank was used as a canvas to trailer Disney’s 3D digital movie, TRON: Legacy. The architectural 3D projection mapping by creative agency Guided Collective in collaboration with Flat-e / Seeper was carried out using six Christie HD18K projectors supplied by large scale projection specialists, QED Productions, and was accompanied by the music from the Daft Punk soundtrack.

The first Ultra High Definition (4K) broadcast in Turkey that is available to the ultimate consumer was realized by TRT 4K – MEDIAPRO TURKEY-TURKSAT and SAMSUNG co-operation. 7 Ultra HD cameras were used during the production of UEFA Europa League A Group Fenerbahçe- Ajax match. The broadcast was transmitted by European Broadcasting Union (EBU) to Beinsport, BT Sports and Japanese NHK TV channels, and was also made available in UEFA headquarter.

True Visions, a leading cable and satellite operator in Thailand, has extended its Imagine Communications playout solution to broadcast this year’s worldwide football championships in 4K Ultra HD. This is the first Ultra HD channel in South East Asia, and it was designed, built, tested, proven and put on air in just four weeks.

Vizrt Ltd., a leading provider of content production tools for the digital media industry, announced today that TV 2 Norway – together with Vizrt partner SterGen High-Tech Ltd (www.stergen.tv) – will broadcast live football to TV 2's IPTV and web viewers. On October 15th, using SterGen's high-quality 3D conversion technology, TV 2 will broadcast the Barclays Premier League match between Manchester United and Liverpool, pioneering 3D to the Norwegian sport viewers over IPTV infrastructure and over the web.

Plazamedia together with TV Skyline produced the Universum Boxing-Evening on Saturday 4th December at the Sports and Convention Center in Schwerin. The full-service provider for TV and New Media realized the TV signal of the boxing event in 3D, HD and SD. In cooperation with SPORT1, Deutsche Telekom and HD+ the TV signals of the fights were distributed via the T-Entertain platform on channel 311 and via Astra on SPORT1 in 3D. In addition the Polish pay-tv operator TVN started its regular 3D channel “nShow 3D” with this boxing event.
