During the 2010 FIFA World Cup™, Sony Corporation will open a variety of pavilions in seven countries (including South Africa) where visitors will be able to experience the "3D world Created by Sony," featuring vivid 3D images of football as well as entertainment content including music, movies and games from across the Sony Group.

World renowned wildlife filmmakers Deeble & Stone have partnered with leading 3D production specialist Inition to co-produce a 3D wildlife pilot in Africa. The shoot took place in Kenya and was produced in association with equipment manufacturer P+S TECHNIK. The pilot is narrated by Sir Ian Holm and will be screened for the first time on 1st June at Dimension 3, Seine-Saint-Denis, France.

The “Car 8”, owned and operated by the French Company AMP is one of two European HD OBVans which are equipped for 3D shooting of 25 games at the FIFA World Cup. “Car 8” will be in charge of the 3D shooting of one match in Durban and 15 matches in Johannesburg, shared between Soccer City Stadium and Ellis Park Stadium. "Car 8" has been chosen for the international broadcasting of the opening match and the final match of the FIFA World Cup in 3D.

Global Television has recently confirmed its trust in EVS Instant Tapeless Technology by upgrading more than 30 XT[2] servers for Live 3D Replay and Slow Motion operations. Global TV provided new EVS 3D systems for the first Australian live 3D sport broadcast, during the soccer match between Australia and New Zealand on 24 May, and again two days later for the National Rugby League matches.

On 23 June the systems integrator Broadcast Solutions GmbH in Bingen invite the Live Production Community to its Open House Exhibition 2010. Broadcast Solutions specialises in the area of video, audio and control systems, as well as in the satellite communications sector. The core business is in the area of mobile broadcast equipment. In the last three years, Broadcast Solutions GmbH has build more than 40 OB-Vans and several studios, as well as fixed uplink and downlink stations. The two Sony equipped 3D OBVans arrived in Johannesburg on 3rd June in the evening. After extensive testings by HBS on various events during the last two months in England and France, the two 3D OBVans - one from AMP and one from Telegenic - were flown into South Africa. "Car 8" owned and operated by the French Company AMP and "T 16" owned and operated by the British company Telegenic are the first two European 3D OBVans covering a prestigious event like the FIFA World Cup.

Launched in March 2009, 3D Live is a collaborative project that has been accredited by the three French 'Image' competitive clusters, Images et Réseaux (images and networks) in Brittany and Pays de Loire, Imaginove in Rhone-Alps, and Cap Digital in Ile-de-France. The project brings together 8 partners. Project leader France Télécom Orange is drawing on the supplemental skills and expertise of Technicolor R&D France, Grass Valley France, Thales Angénieux, AMP (televised shoots), Binocle (special 3D capture equipment and software), in synergy with INRIA and Telecom Institute research laboratories.

For the first time in French television history M6 broadcasted in 3D, with the assistance of Orad's Stereographics solution. Thanks to Stereographics, M6 are able to render and display their graphics in real time for the most exciting French Pop Idol production ever.

Snell today announced that SIS LIVE, operator of the largest satellite uplink fleet in Europe and the largest outside broadcast provider in the U.K., is using the Alchemist Ph.C – HD to enable 3D conversions during live event broadcasts. SIS LIVE began using the Alchemist Ph.C – HD to support live 3D delivery in February, when the company participated in the O2-sponsored screening of the RBS 6 Nations Rugby tournament at 40 cinemas across the U.K. The Alchemist Ph.C – HD ensured smooth conversion of left- and right-eye video from the 1080i50 production standard to the 720p60 standard required to reduce flicker and ensure high viewing quality on theater screens.
