Ultra HD Forum gains momentum

The Ultra HD Forum, a global advocacy body with a mission to facilitate the adoption of UHD and related technologies, announced today that its membership has grown significantly, as the industry ramps up for UHD commercial deployments. The Ultra HD Forum’s membership has tripled to 20 member companies from the original founding charter members who included Dolby Laboratories, Ericsson, Harmonic, LG Electronics, NeuLion, and Sony.

UHD: HDR/WCG to become mainstream

A report in Display Daily from highly regarded industry analyst Chris Chinnock says that HDR and WCG displays will rapidly become mainstream. He states: “Nearly every UHD TV in 2016 will support the basic HDR-10 level of HDR. Most will have HDMI 2.0a connectors to be able to read static metadata, which is part of HDR-10.”

UEFA delivers the world’s first UHD IP remote production trial

UEFA has delivered the world’s first uncompressed UHD remote production trial during the 2017 UEFA European Under-21 Championship Final, held in Poland in June, in collaboration with Snell Advanced Media (SAM) and system’s integrator, Gearhouse Broadcast. During the Championship final game, the IP system – which replaced a traditional OB set up - delivered live camera signals from the Marshal Józef Piłsudski Stadium in Krakow, Poland to UEFA who were located at BT Sport’s facility at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in London, around 1600km away, ready for live edit and playout.

UEFA CL Final in 3D by TV3: In Cinemas and on TV

More than 5,000 people watched the Champions League final match in 3D at the cinema, in a unique and pioneering initiative taken by TV3 to cinemas across Catalonia. A total of 22 cinemas in 17 cities offered the only 3D images of Barça’s victory that were available in Spain, in a broadcast by TV3 and by TV3HD channels in parallel to that of television. Six cinemas in Barcelona city, as well as cinemas in Mataró, Terrassa, Gavà, L’Hospitalet and Badalona sold out all available tickets. Overall, 75% of seating space in all cinemas that broadcast the match in 3D was filled.

UEFA Champions League: Bayern Munich 4-0 FC Barcelona

FC Barcelona were on the receiving end of a heavy 0-4 defeat in Munich, as the Blaugrana were outclassed by a Bayern side full of hunger, desire and discipline. Thomas Müller opened the scoring on 25 minutes with a close-range finish, and Mario Gomez doubled the hosts’ advantage with a similar finish just four minutes after the half-time break. Arjen Robben made it three with less than 20 minutes remaining before Müller rounded off a superb night for the Bavarians with his second of the evening on 82 minutes. For this year at least, Barcelona’s UEFA Champions League dreams are all but over.

Two world premieres for slomo.tv at Broadcast Solutions’ Innovation Day

At the 9th of December 2015 Broadcast Solutions held its Broadcast Innovation Day at the company’s headquarters in Germany. During the event visitors had the chance to witness the world premiere of two new members to the slomo.tv product family. With BlackJack 4K and Arrow 4K the company once again sets a new standard in slow motion servers. Initially planned for this years’ NAB show both products were shown for the first time at the Broadcast Innovation Day and are available immediately.
