Pixel Power, a leading supplier of broadcast graphics systems, has today announced its partnership with the Digital Media Centre (DMC), one of Europe’s most advanced digital media facilities, for the delivery of 3D coverage of the Masters Golf, from Augusta, Georgia, which took place this month.

SES ASTRA announced that it will launch a 3D demo channel on ASTRA. Following initial testing, the channel will go live on 4 May 2010 right in time for the opening of ANGA Cable, the international trade fair for cable broadband and satellite taking place from 4-6 May in Cologne, Germany. ASTRA's new 3D demo channel will be available free-to-air via ASTRA's orbital position 23.5 degrees East, and will initially target retailers and installers featuring high quality 3D content including sports, music and entertainment.

While 3D TVs, 3D broadcast channels and 3D cinemas pop up like daisies, content owners develop a growing need to get their 2D content converted to a 3D format. The fact is that people are paying more to see 3D, hence 2D content has less value than 3D content. Synapse, AXON’s modular interface and signal processing equipment, is enhanced with 3D functionality. The G3D100 is a 3Gb/s, HD and SD stereoscopic production and/or transmission tool. The unit is designed for situations where stereoscopic production with flip or mirror, monitoring in anaglyph, 3D transmission of stereoscopic into side by side, or side by side to anaglyph is required. It can be fed with a stereoscopic image (and a backup source). These sources are processed internally to provide multiple outputs.

SKY Perfect JSAT Corporation (JSAT) and Sony Corporation (Sony) on 20th April 2010 announced plans to broadcast 25 matches from the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™ Tournament, which starts on June 11, in 3D. The 3D matches will be broadcast via SKY Perfect JSAT's SKY PerfecTV! HD and SKY PerfecTV! HIKARI channels under the name 'Sony Presents "2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™ 3D"' (reflecting Sony's flagship sponsorship of the show). Commencing June 19, the lineup of 3D matches includes live broadcasts of the Japan-Netherlands match and the tournament final.

Continuing to lead the 3D revolution by offering customers new dimensions in sports programming, DIRECTV will add ESPN 3D, the industry’s first 3D sports television network, to its upcoming 3D lineup that will offer three dedicated 3D channels, including DIRECTV’s newly named linear 3D channel, N3D™ powered by Panasonic. Launching in June, millions of DIRECTV HD customers will have access to ESPN’s entire 3D programming lineup, including up to 25 2010 FIFA World Cup matches.
